Default new scion, considering TRD super..

hey guys. my dealer who sold me the car pointed me here and ive done some searching and im convinced that S/C is the best way to go and be safe. i was considering the greddy turbo kit but i realize it would kill the motor quicker (although a better perofrmance boost)

i used to ride a GSXR 1000 (it was my baby till i crashed it last november )

so to make up for it i just bought a brand new 08 tc. I love it and it will be my daily driver.
i just put my 800th mile on it today

Now when i S/C it i plan to have the dealer install it.

Heres where i need help: should i find the TRD S/C online and have the delaer install it or find a specialty shop, should i wait till the motor is broken in a lil more, what else do i need to change when isntalling the S/C? i am fairly mechanicly savoy and so are my buddies but im not sure how involved it is...

i know with the turbo kit i need new e-manage, atleast 440cc injectors and prolly wouldnt be a terrible idea for forged piston and rods.

lastly i searched for the performance increase charts and found nothing....

(yeah its my daily driver but i miss my baby and i need something fun to play with.)

What is your "overall" goal with the car? Where do you want the hp to be?

since it is a new car, and your daily driver, wait until you hit 1000 miles. order the trd supercharger for the 07-08 years from www. trdsparks.com and have it installed by your dealership.

this will give you some extra performance while keeping your powertrain warranty.

since this is just a daily driver, then preserving your reliability and drivability is important.

thats exactly how i feel. thats why i decided to stay mostly TRD thru and thru, becasue i know it will be covered.

As far as overall goal, i mean nothing to crazy since it is a daily driver.160 stock is alright, id like to be over 2, maybe 220 ish. im just trying to figure out what i need to do to make the S/C safe for the car. shes my baby and i dont wanna mess her up.

also what do you think some delaer would charge for install? and would they do it ALL?

also would anyone recomend replacing the clutch after S/C?

has anyone had bad luck using a larger pulley on the trd S/c ?

You don't put larger pulley's on, you put smaller pulley's on just for the record. Secondly, if you are going to install a pulley, you just voided your S/C'er warranty.

stock clutch is fine, as for installs, just about any dealership can do, the price varies from about $400 to 700 dollars. i'd call around, make sure the dealership has a competant tech who has installed a few of them before, because some dealerships have never done much more than an oil change.

and you wouldn't use a larger pulley, that would reduce boost, you would use a smaller pulley to increase boost. HOWEVER the warranty expliciting says that any modification of the intake, bypass system or pulley system automatically voids your warranty. so if you get the supercharger, and want to keep your warranty, don't touch it.

you can do full exhaust if you want, and maybe a header, but that is about it.

a stock supercharged tc dynos about 190 whp. with exhaust, you can do about 205 whp.

when your warranty is up, you can increase boost, upgrade the bypass valve, and intake, header, make about 230-240 whp.

the difference between mpg with the supercharger isn't huge unless your always hitting boost. and 91 octane isnt' that much more expensive than regular.

^^With the S/C'er, you are always in boost, just not full boost.

you also live in FL where im sure gas is well over $4 a gallon. i can still pay less then 3.50 a gallon.

ok so now i run prem i pay 3.75 a gal. but hey my last car got 12mpg. cant be that bad lol

question: if i were to throw an aftermarket exhaust, how does that play my warranty? im going to way till im at 1200 miles before exhaust, but what will toyota say about that?
also if i have toyota install the s/c, will the reset the e-manage for me?

well, exhaust CAN make you run lean because the huge drop in back pressure can mean that it will displace more air then it realizes it is, and possibly run alittle lean.

but with the primary o2 sensor in the exhaust header, i think the car could handle a change in backpressure.

rythymnsmoke: since it is a centrifugal supercharger, you really don't see any noticible boost until 3.5 to 4k rpms, which is beyond the realm of regular shifting in day to day driving. i've been keeping track of my mpg, and so far it remains unchanged. so with the supercharger, it is nice because the power is there when you need it, but not when you don't.

^^I know it's centrifugal, hence the reason why it's always boosting. It does not have turbo lag, the higher in rpm you go, the more boost you are running. Shifting at 3.5 to 4k rpm does not change it's functionality....which is being centrifugal and building boost as rpms increase. It's always "on" boost.

Unlike a turbo, the S/C'er does not have "vac" persay. You can be at 5k rpm on a turbo and not be in boost at all, due to throttle input. You could still be in vac. You can't do that with the S/C'er.

PS.....I shift at 3-4k rpm just normal driving....LOL.

yeah, i shift earlier because my exhaust is really loud and terrible right now, and i have too many tickets to be boosting everywhere i go, which is why i get good mpg.
