Default Official Dezod Turbo thread:12/21 - Long-term and new parts!

MAJOR UPDATE - 1 YR LATER haha..

Since our initial release, we have updated, added, and altered the following:

Overall turbo kit line:
We've sold a lot of turbo kits, with different parts and accessories to compliment them. Changes include the switch from TiAL BOV's to the HKS SSQV. We also altered our emanage tunes. Fuel injectors have been switch to a full PnP making this kit wire-splice free! The main turbo kit is still the same though. The same turbo is being used, same pipes, same exhaust system, etc. We made numbers ranging from as low as 229whp (Automatic at 5psi) to over 300whp on a stock 5-speed. Built motors are making much more. The new turbo kit line keeps the S1, but now adds the TEA as an option. Here's something about our TEA kit...

The TEA Kit Story:
Paul called me, and wanted to try something new. It was the beginning of our stage 2. Being in love with boost, I couldn't resist. So we set out a goal for a future HP/TQ, and took into account the engine build to be. A turbo was selected, and we tested it. The results were impressive. The powerband felt more linear (although more lag) and the top end power band was definately improved. We knew this kid could be released to the public. So after more testing, and developing of our kit, we decided it was ready. The TEA kit was born and is now making some of the highest numbers of many bolt-on kits to this day. With this kit you will get a heat sheild, our PnP harness comes standard, and the additional "black box", to be discussed soon.

The internals:
Stock motor for life? To some yes. To us no. Granted I'm still running the stock motor, we've been spending quite some time designing what's known as a "dream motor". Power delivery is important, but so is throttle response and longevity. The perfect motor will be all of this. We've been choosing each piece very carefully. We're still not done with all of the components we're using yet, never mind the build itself. We have been selling the Wiseco pistons, Carillo a-beam and h-beam rods already. This is just a taste of what's to come. We've been playing with different CRs, cam profiles, valve diameters, and even engine materials (Ti vs steel). Everything's being taken into account, including price. When the motor goes public in the upcoming months, I see many people wanting to buy this package.

The electronics:
Why settle? We sure wont! We have been running with the Greddy Emanage since day 1. After almost a year of selling our kits with these units reliably, we started looking into more alternatives. The first task was to fix the daily driver scare of lean AFR’s under partial throttle (a.k.a. <80%, closed loop). We did it! With release of our black box, you can now tune your partial throttle fuel curves. The end result is a very reliable, very streetable turbo car. We offer a pre-tune to get you going. 4 wires later, you’re ready to go. But why stop there? Why not go for the ultimate? The ultimate is a stand-alone. With two-step rev limiting, custom maps, and total control, you can’t go wrong. We’ve been debating on which system to go with for a while and two units we’ve been fabricating and testing. We have an ETA of LATE winter/early spring. Stay tuned for more updates in that matter down the road.

Overall… We’re happy with our products so far. We have a fast turn-time, reliable products, and great performers. We’ve been catering to suspensions, brakes, and other areas as well. I think it’s helped us and the customer, being able to offer everything in one location. The stock motor on my car has been boosted for 1yr and 2 months, with being driven from no tune to fully tuned and 11psi, it’s been through everything. We’ve used different gas types, different climate, and different driving conditions. She still drives strong and will be a running motor when we replace it with the built one.

If you guys have questions let me know! I know it’s been a while!

END DEC 21st UPDATE

Some already know about the kit to be built by Dezod Motorsports. We are in the works of developing OEM quality kits in order to offer full reliability and performance to match.

UPDATE: 6-21-05!!!
Turbonetics "secret sauce" turbo
Tial Wastegate and BOV
Random Tech piping and exhaust work
Custom built manifold (stainless log) (I don't think we're using Alphawerks anymore)
Greddy Electronics
Custom built intercooler
Misc parts from turbonetics (oil lines, flanges, and clamps)

OUR QUESTIONS FOR YOU...
As posted ahead in the thread, we have a few questions:
-Would you consider a stealthy flat black 3" exhaust to hide the bling, or still want something shiny?
-For the external wastegate: Would you like us to keep all the wastegtes silver or offer a couple extra colors? Which color would you want (anodized blue, red, purple, or black)?
-For the BOV: Same question as above? What color choice?

Please PM or respond here if you have suggestions or comments on what to offer with the kit.
-END UPDATE**

UPDATE 6-28-05!!

Custom built intercooler is expected to arrive for this Wednesday. Turbonetics just finished our turbo today and is expected to ship out sometime tomorrow. Tial is working on our large order we made to stock up on BOVs and Wastegates.
-END UPDATE**

UPDATE 6-28-05 V2.0!!!!
Our custom built intercooler showed up today. So with that, I took a pic of it, along with a couple of some of the Greddy stuff.

Update 7/07/05!!
-Tial has finished our large order of wastegates and bovs so we now have multiple ones of each in stock.
-Turbonetics finished the custom built turbo and shipped it out, it arrives Saturday.
-Flanges for turbo manifold are complete. They are CNC machined cast iron, ceramic coated flanges. Good stuff.

Update 7/11/05!!
I'm leaving now to take our Turbo and Wastegate to our manifold shop to get the manifold finished up. Our turbo is GORGEOUS!!! It's definately a show piece turbo. Using a polished compressor housing with an anodized gold center section. The tab for our intercooler is being welded over the next hour or two and I'll take a picture of the IC mounted on the car. We're getting closer to finishing this project and will be contacting our GA people soon.

Update 7/13/05!!
New stuff now open to public... Our intercooler will be pictured on this thread sometime tomorrow showing how it's installed. This is to give our customers a piece of mind knowing how simple it is to attach to the car. A new promotion will be in effect once we open our pre-orders... Any pre-order on the kit ($1k deposit) will get a teaser/welcome kit in the mail, as well as a free Autometer boost gauge. If you choose not to take the boost gauge, we'll hook you up with a $50 coupon code, allowing you to take $50 off anything on the www.dezod.com store front. If you want something you don't see on the site and would like us to special order it, the $50 discount is still valid and will be accepted. Thanks for everyone's interest. We're now getting phone calls and messages every day asking about stuff for the kit, which is great. If there's something you'd like to know, and it's within reason, by all means post here. If you would like it to remain prive don't hesitate to email, call, or PM me. Only reason I ask to be posted on this thread first is so other members may learn the same information. Thanks again for everyone's support.

Update 7-15-05!!
This is what everyone's been waiting for. You can now see what the turbo and IC look like. I figured I hyped it up enough to show a little of what I'm talking about to back it up. The turbo pics were taken on some black felt I had left from the custom system.

- The turbo is polished with a gold anodized center. I'm chosing not to show all the angles because of certain specs stamped on the housings. The IC pic is the only one for now, expect more once I can get the car out of the garage and back on the road.

That's about it for the short update for now. I'm not sure how many pics I'll post of any of the stuff yet. We need to keep a lot of the special stuff quiet until it's ready to sell. I know you all understand. Thanks.

Update 7-21-05!!
ACT has given us the parts numbers we requested to sell the new ACT clutch systems for the tC. We now sell matching clutch sets to go with our turbo kits. Please follow this link if you want your clutch today: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=74102. We will be offering them with our turbo kits at a discount if they're purchased at the same time of the kit. The street setup is what we're promoting because the pucks are just a little to harsh for daily driving. Another new update, we are now proud to announce that by the time our kits are ready for shipment, we will offer a full plug and play system for the emanage. Not only will it come with a pre-tuned application disc to get your car on the road, but it will come with a full harness replacement that connects to your stock ECU and directly to the emanage, no wire splicing necessary. This is by far the fastest, cheapest, and most reliable way to get your tC connected up to a fully programmable engine management system Expect more updates soon as we are working night and day on getting the most out of our turbo kits to give you the looks, reliability, and performance that everyone wants. Thanks again.

Update 8-9-2005!!
Exhaust flanges are done from CNC shop. Came out flawless. All flanges are port matched to the tC head to eliminate any added turbulance (creates turbo lag and less power). They're machined smoothly, with now "straight plate" look, everything is curves on this bad boy. The final manifold should be done by Thursday of this week, expect pics then or the following day.

Update 8-10-2005!!
Update: Plug and play system will definately be available for the tC with or without our kit. Refer to this thread for more info and pricing/buying information:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...=971696#971696.

It will not be included with our turbo kit, but it will be an option. We want to keep the base price of this kit low enough for those who need/want to save as much as possible. The package price with a purchase of the turbo kit will be an option, but the harness may not be available as soon as the kit, due to the pre-order we're making.

If there are extra harnesses in stock, then they will ship out with the kit, to all those who paid for the upgrade.

***Update 8-12-2005!!
Before the actual update... We need more opinions from you guys again. Do you want the Stage 1 kits to have the wastegate routed back into the down pipe (more money), or vent/dump downward (cheaper, louder)? It's up to you guys, we'll end up doing one or the other. Stage 2 kits will all dump, not go back into the exhaust, as it performs better.

We did it! The turbo manifold is complete and we finally got it the way we wanted. The final charge pipes and full exhaust systems will be done the last week of this month. After that, we're good to go!

Here's some pics of what it will look like, roughly...

Update 8/15
Here's the manifold installed before it's shipped off to get final charge pipes made.

Update 8/27!!
We shipped out the kit in the beginning of the week to Random Tech it GA for the charge pipe manufacturing, exhaust manufacturing, and more fitment/development. The chief engineer of Random Tech is designing the pipe system with us. We're also developing/paying for a full replacement exhaust, from the S-Pipe back. It will be a true bolt up, no cutting or welding, and utilize a 2.5" stainless exhaust. We came to a decision to dump the wastegate charge down under the motor (keep the engine bay clean) and not plumb it back into the exhaust. For those choosing to rout back in, please PM us before ordering so we can make arrangements to ship you the flange you need to get it finished. We feel this is the best performing, most economical option. The manifold will have multiple coating options (all Caps coating). ETA on completion of all the hardware is September 2nd. I should receive the kit in the middle of the following week, we installation and testing will begin. We are also close to the completion of the full plug and play Emanage system (costing us a lot to make). We won't install our Emanage on the Dezod tC until we try this kit out. This is for obvious reasons, as we do not want to release the harness until it's completely flawless. We will not release prices or official specs until this is all done. The kits will not be sold or released until the kinks and design is worked out to perform as consistant as the original, and only of the original is up to our standards and expectations. I'm sorry I don't have any updated pics, but we're choosing to not upload any more development pics until it's close to completion. Stay tuned for more shortly.

Update 9/6/05!!
Quick update... Random Tech is finishing our pipes this week. They will also be shipping a full turbo-back exhaust system (OEM bolt-up) to us along with the kit. We will be selling the turbo-back exhausts as an upgrade with our kit. Installation and tuning of everything will be done within the next week or two. A lot of pictures will be taken. It'll help us make the PDF installation manual for those who buy the kits from us. We've put in thousands (many of thousands) of dollars into developing and engineering this kit. Boost will be incredibly fast with torque that just doesn't go away. MSD has sent us injectors and EFI clips for final fit an finish of our fuel system. Small details will be worked out next week and a final list of components that come with the kit will be posted. Prices will be posted, numbers, pictures, specs, upgrades, and any misc things you made need to install our kits. It's almost time guys! Thanks for being patient.

Update 9/10/05!!
Pic is up of the Emanage Plug and Play harness kit. Testing will be done next week, and the first pre-order will ship after that. From there, expect all pre-orders to be finished in about 4-5 weeks. Limited time price still in effect, buy yours before the time is up...

Update 9/16/05 Charge Pipes and exhaust pre-lim stuff...
This is just with tack welds, not the real thing. The finished product will look much nicer when we're done with everything. Final kit includes custom brackets and extremely clean welds on the entire system. And yes we did decide to recirc the wastegate.

You guys can expect some more results over the next week or two. We were shooting to finish the kit by this Friday but it looks like we're looking at closer to the Friday after. This is due to some fuel designs we're working on, and the charge pipe layout. We're keeping the front bumper on our kit (the actual metal part that protects you and your engine from a frontal crash) so the mounting and piping is a little bit more difficult than usual. Please bare with us. On a positive not, we haven't taken a cent from anyone but those who bought a pre-ordered harness. The harness will be shipping on the date as promised, so so far everything is under control. We've spent double digits worth of thousands of dollars in developing this kit for race and street use. When it's to the point where we want it (original goal of OEM quality fitment) we will then release the kit to the public. ETA for sale is now 3 weeks when we start taking orders. Thanks to all being patient with us, and start saving! In the mean time, if you're planning on buying a clutch with us at the same time as your turbo kit, PM me. We are willing to ship the clutches out in advance (and still give you the package price) so you may install the clutch before your turbo comes in. This allows you to properly break it in and to get used to it before you're pushing almost 300HP.

Update 9/23/05!!
We have a 3rd fuel system we're trying out in the beginning of the week next week. Our pipes are all being bent today (final kit, not the ones seen in the pics). Once they're done with the bender they'll be mildy polished for a semi-show finish. It's not going to be dead sexy like some other polished or powder coated kits, but it leaves you the room to customize, and keeps cosats down while still looking good. ETA on a complete kit (pictures) is BY October 1st. 1 week away. From there, we'll spend the following week testing and installing everything to get it all running right, followed by the numbers.

Update 10/1/05!!

As an update... Our intake pipe on the proto-type kit does not have a MAF flange so we had to use a universal adapter. Your kits will have the flange on the pipe itself. The prototype kit was extremely rushed so the pipes will actually look better on the production kit. We are also modifying the downpipe slightly but that is small detail. Production kits will also have tabs for some of the pipes so it may be bolted up to the car, ensuring a more secure assembly. I have a couple teaser pics so far to show what I've been doing....

Nicest downpipe you've ever seen ....

PICS AS OF 10/03/05...
New pics as promised...

This pic is of the injectors installed (almost impossible to take but hey...)

Hope you guys like how the kit will look!

Update 10-05-05!!! Lots more pics, pretty much done...
Ok guys good news! Dyno is scheduled this Friday, and racing will be done Friday night weather permitting. I'll upload some more pics right now, and the next big upload will be pics of everything complete, and cleaned! After about $10 worth or parts, development, and tweaking, I couldn't be more happy with the result. Fitment is amazing, and everything fills the engine bay the way it's supposed to. We also utilize the stock crank-case hose (costs you less money and looks like it's mean to be there) and we utilize the stock cold air extension pipe for the intake. Here's some pics of the pipes before we clamped everything down and put the bumper on.

Piping...

Now for how well our kit fills that nice engine bay...

And now to show you how the kit is so well designed that even the stainless covered oil line looks like it's meant to be

Oil feed (simple and leak proof design...)

The ONE-PIECE drop-in turbo, manidold, wastegate, downpipe, o2 assembly... The whole thing drops right in...

UPDATE 10/11/05!!! 2 Videos
Remember these vids are before any major dyno tuning. It has some tuning under it's belt but with severely retarded ignition timing and a very rich AFR (close to about 11).

UPDATE 10/17/05!!
Ok guys here's the scoop. This is the first kit we've made. After some very heavy abuse tonight we're finding that the high-flow cat doesn't like constant abuse. It can handle daily driving fine, but long runs of boost will get it pretty hot. We actually got it glowing red lol... Anyway... Even at the lower 8.7psi, we still pulled ignition timing back about 4 degrees. It's been running fine so we figure why not play it safe a bit.

Here's the detail of the dyno... We used a $40K dyno. It has a computerized load system to generate a virtual street run. The extra load gives us a longer pull and shows how the motor will run on the street. According to our tuner, without the extra load put on, he said the numbers would be about 15% higher than recorded. The pulled ignition timing lost us about 20hp on the dyno, but it's better safe than sorry. We did this dyno using a cat, 8.7psi, stock clutch (which is slipping horribly already, 4th doesn't hold at all anymore under boost), the wastegate being dumped into the cat, and with the 18s on the car haha...

The HP on the actual dyno was 243.3 and 255 tq. With just a 15% correction for what a normal dyno would show, you would have seen 279.8WHP and 293.3 TQ. Now the future kits will probably not come with the Cat anymore (but may be an option for those who want it), and the wastegate will be dumped. This means we're expecting about 260WHP WITH the 15% load. Our goal is about 300WHP with minor modification, but 260 is reasonable.

Here's the graph, almost a perfectly flat (somewhat rich) fuel curve....

UPDATE 10/28/05!!!
Road review and updates...
We asre VERY pleased with on-road performance. Some minor idle tuning for atmospheric venting is still being done but should be perfect next week. The car is extremely fast for such a moderate boost level. 3rd spins if it's when out with ease, and the BOV is smooth yet very audible. We are keeping the cat on our retail kits. We are also keeping the re-circ setup for the wastegate. There's new methods we're using to keept things perfect for the street car.

Race review and updates...
The Racing experience blew us away. 1st run I left the tire pressure at 30psi on BF Goodrich dragradials. This is extremely high for this type of tire, but I was curious on what it would do. 1st and 2nd spun, and I bounced into 3rd. 3rd and 4th went by just as fast and I hit a 13.8@103MPH at a little over 8psi. So, in an effort to get a lot more traction off the line, I lowered the tire pressure to 20psi. I heatsoaked the hell out of them in the burnout box (2nd gear burnouts are always fun). I get to the line, and as soon as I dump the clutch, BANG! I snapped the passenger side axle. retail for a new one is $467. I have a replacement showing up tomorrow afternoon. The car is capable of running a mid 13 at the street tune on the stock boost level. If you upped the boost and used our optional MAP sensor Greddy kit, you can run over 10psi safely and start cutting some high 12s on the same kit (providing you already upgraded your clutch like I have.

Verdict:
The kit is pretty much complete. We'll be selling the kits most likely as of next week once I have the new axle on and finish some final testing/tuning. There will be many optional and strongly suggested upgrades we'll offer.

All in all guys, we made it! Thanks to everyone for standing by us, and we look forward to all the Racing setups we'll be developing over the winter (Stage 2, head packages, pistions, rods, sleeves, cooling, tranny, etc...)

Haha... I was expecting/hoping you'd be one of the first to post.

Nothing's official yet, but I can say Alphawerks/Nexus will be helping us with this. And we are using a cast iron maifold (virtually impossible to crack, oem quality, identical production). We get our first manifold over the next couple of weeks once it's done. The intercooler will be here at the end of this week/beginning of next week. The turbo is currently in the works so I'm unsure of the date of arrival. I can assure you we will get straight to the fabrication and tesing once we get it.

I'm expecting the manifold to perform very well. We will be finding that out after multiple pulls on the dyno, track testing, and daily driving.

What are the turbo options?

Will you have a "bling" option? Polished turbos are purdy.

Turbo options will be very limited. I can tell you what the difference is between the Stage 1 and the Stage 2. Stage 1 will be built specifically for 6-10psi, with a moderately flat torque curve. It should spool by 2400rpms and make full boost well before 3000rpms. The stage 2 will have the same compressor wheel, but with a larger AR on the exhaust side. It will be built for shooting between 12-22psi, depending on your engine setup. It will also be a patented single ball bearing turbo, which should allow for spooling as soon as the stage 1 setup.

The bling option will go unanswered for now. We may do it standard, it may be optional, it may not even be offered. We are doing everything we can to avoid back orders, delays, or added cost both to you and us. We'll see what out suppliers can do for us, and at what cost.

As of right now I am still unsure of the ETA on the kit. It comes down to how soon we can get the stuff to test everything for a while. We're shooting to have it available by August, as long as we're comfortable with the results.

We're shooting to keep stage 1 set for around 3k. We want these kits to be affordable as much as they are reliable, and are spending a great deal of time on making the system as effective as possible for a specific price point.

Stage 2 should be closer to 4-4.5K but allow you to make a LOT of power.

Various upgrades will also be offered as a package price. This will include purchases like clutches, flywheels, brakes, electronics (boost controllers, turbo timers, etc), and hopefully some type of tire deal.

The initial release of these kits will not have all of the packages worked out, because we are on a certain time schedule. I can assure you that each kit will be complete with everything you need to boost safely, and take down some cars at the track.

Expect videos, pictures, and more as we move on. Thanks for the q-s, keep them coming!

Thanks.

New update from a previous PM. I will look into it to make sure, but this kit should be able to work fine with automatic tCs. We will probably ship kits out with a lower pressure spring in the wastegate to avoid risk of damage to the tranny until we figure something out to beef it up a little bit.

sounds great. thanks for supporting this platform

are you going to try a SMIC setup? i would like to be able to road race without a FMIC blocking the air getting to my radiator.

are you going to use the Type S or Type RS recirculated?
what about putting the tial into the exhaust instead of a seperate downpipe?
that would keep the noise down and the unwanted attention (coppers) away

what about ceramic coating the pipes to keep the heat down?

also ... the only reason to use the Type RS over the Type S is that the S leaks above 22psi.... i'm not sure your difference in cost but if you could get the the S and keep costs down it'll be a little cheaper for the customer and more readily available for you.

Believe it or not, the RS costs less than the S for us.

I think we're still planning on staying with FMICs for both setups, though the stage 2 can still be modified (haven't done anything yet).

I'd like to bring the wastegate back into the downpipe if possible. We'll be going through trial and error to see which will work better.

We could possibly offer ceramic coating as an option. I know that we could sell heat wrap (worst case scenario) if someone really wants the best performance.

As for the recirculation on the BOV... I'm debating on recirculating or letting the Emanage compensate for an atmospheric BOV. Which ever runs smoother and performs the best overall is what we'll be using.

Thanks for the q's, and I'll start loading up some pictures beginning next weeek.

Same as on our cars, there are tuning solutions that allow you to calibrate it for a vented BOV. They don't work as well as just recirculating it, because there is no guess work involved with that

We plan on using an FMIC on both kits. The Stage 2 may utilize a better intercooler, but the stage 1 intercooler supports about 400hp with minimal turbo lag.

We are using an intercooler that takes advantage of the bumpers, both the Kaminari and the stock. It will be a lower profile, basically just wide but low. I don't want to release too much yet but it will utilize the factory cooling areas without adding so much of a core where turbo lag is probable.

An upgrade could be a SLIGHTly larger core, maybe a couple inches, but with larger end tanks for a larger pipe diameter.

We are even experimenting with different pipe sizes to see how the velocity, lag, and cooling efficiency changes.

Been in the garage all morning figuring out some stuff. Thanks for the compliment on the body kit.

BTW - Here's the Dezod tC, that we're currently boosting...

Well the tC is on the Dezod.com website.

Today was a good day of getting things ready. We expect some pretty impressive numbers from the whole thing.

I'll slowly trickle in more info as tiem presses on. Also, I know the site has a couple typo's and until we figure out what to call this project, it will remain a nice lil "urban" lingo phrase.

As said before, I need a tC doner car from Atlanta, GA dropped off for a week at Random Technologies. We will give you a kit at our cost plus 5% (to cover paypal or cc fees) or a discount off the website. A donar car will significantly reduce the amount of time it will take to get this kit made up.

Joe, are your kits going to be carb EO, and if so, when do you think you can get em carb'd? and how much will that bump up the price for those kits?

Random Tech is possibly offering us a couple donar tCs looking to them so I'd like to keep it in that general area. We'll let you know if we can work something out. Thanks.

Also, here's the link for the "project"...

As much as I'd like the kits to be Carb Certified, I know it will take a great deal of time and money. As of right now, we will be releasing the kits without a carb cert. but later on if sales continue to go at a good rate, and there's enough demand, we may consider it.
