PTUNING: TA tC - Wins 2009 Redline Time Attack Mod FWD Championship (nice vid pg. 4)
Just got back from a track day at Summit Points Raceway, WV where we were testing out our setup that we will be running at the season finale of the Redline Time Attack at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. It's been a rough road getting to this point, but hopefully within the next week or so, we should have the car finished for the long road trip to CA.
This past weekend some of the Ptuning crew were doing some testing with the Porche Club of America HPDE day at our local road race track at Summit Points raceway. With our luck, it rained part of the day on Saturday, but that did not prevent us from getting on the track to test out the new engine and tranny setup. We spent all of last week dynoing the car with the new GT35R turbo setup and twin wastegate on our ptuning turbo manifold. We also tested out the new tranny upgrade that we hope will hold together for the RTA event in two weeks.
This weekend didn't come and go without it's own set of problems. On Saturday, with the new found power, the car was hitting 160mph down the front straight--which is ridiculously fast for this track. At that speed, the brackets holding the front splitters to the frame of the car sheared off at the mounting points due to the amount of downforce being generated. A trip back to the shop Saturday night and a new mounting bracket was made along with a new splitter. Due to time constraints and lack of material, we were unable to create the mounting bracket that we would like to run for the Sunday session.
Sunday session was going great with the boost by gear working flawlessly (9psi - 26psi) with the car running ridiculous speeds around the track and bam, the mounting bracket for the splitter let go once again and a decision was made to remove the splitter all together for the remainder of the day. Our Ross Miller had to relearn his braking points and throttle control since the splitter made a huge difference in generating downforce to the front wheels. Without the splitter, there wasn't much of a margin for error around the turns. The remainder of the session on Sunday was going well until the car came into pitlane with a broken driver side axles (these were upgraded DDS axles that we've been running all season, so i guess it was just a matter of time before it couldn't handle any more abuse. On the upside, the tranny mod seemed to have held up all weekend.
Let's hope that we can get all these issues resolve before making the looooooong drive to Fontana, CA.

We think the tripod on the inner cv joint broke. But haven't had a chance to pull the axle yet.

HA! I caught you....sneaky ___!
LOL....anyhow. SICK tranny work. I will have to pick your brain some on that oil cooling for the manual tranny. I like. And glad the R.E.M treatment seems to be doing a good job. I will have to pick your brain on the pricing for that as well.
Hope for some West Coast domination.

For the west coast, we'll probably mix 91 octane with 100octane unleaded available at the track since 93 octane is not readily available on the West Coast.

If money was not an issue, we'd buy an aftermarket tranny and call it a day, but since that's not an option for us, we're forced to work with what we have.

Not yet, but then again, e85 is not available at most race tracks and running around town in the middle of no where looking for e85 might be a problem when you need it to finish a race. For now pump gas is available everywhere and water meth can be carried in a few gallon bottle for a race weekend.

Guys, the car was a BLAST this weekend. I was able to get some good testing in and man the car just flat out FLYS! I can spin the tires in 4th gear at well over 100mph!! its nuts! Passing cars is super easy and the car just keeps accelerating! The setup is still wonderful and i cannot wait to dominate on the west coast!!!!!!
We did have 2 splitters fail on us this weekend, at over 150mph... those were both code brown moments, as the car vibrates! EEK! But that means they are both working providing enough downforce! With the splitter off, the car didnt stop nearly as fast, and was not as responsive at all. Its amazing what it did!
The last session of the weekend we had some part of the axle fail. This caused major vibrations under acceleration. I took the car in and was sad that i never really got a good timed lap we'll just have to make up for it in fontana!
Wish us luck at fontana!!
