Dealer just called me... they said they could not duplicate the noise (they had it the ENTIRE day!) and want me to come in to do a roadtest with a tech. I will not be able to make it till 7+ since it is 5 already now... if i have a to make ANOTHER appointment for them to figure this thing out i'm going to be ____ed!

Will keep you guys posted when i am back from the dealership.

Just back from the dealer, did a road test with the tech and it seems that when i hold the acceleration on 4th gear at around 3700rpm it is the loudest and most constant, you go higher or take your foot off the gas then it goes away.

So guess what? They need another day to figure it out. AND they scratched my car!!! the passenger side door... bummer! Alhtough they said they would take care of it but.. still..... bums me out...

They did however hook my up with a almost new Corolla S rental.

I really wonder what they will find... and if they don't find anything if i should live with it or just trade the damn thing in.

Will keep you guys updated tmrow when they call me again.

I noticed a similar noise after I installed my CCshort shifter. Took it to the dealer and it turns out the shifter cables were contacting the little silver srs air bag box that sits just above the cables underneath the radio. All I did was add about 3 small washer to each corner of the srs box to lift it up and the noise is gone. You might want to try it just in case.

I didn't install the short shifter tho, mine is stock, also for you was it also making noise only at acceleration at a certain RPM and no sound when idle? I wonder if the cables for the stock shifter might have moved out of place or something? is that possible?

No news from the dealership today... i called them around 6pm, they said "still no idea, we don't even know if it is normal or not"... i'm like IT'S NOT NORMAL! My old car was a 94 Honda Civic... Manual.. the DX too... with 140000 miles on it when trade in.. and NO RATTLE.

Anyway... let's see what they say tmrow... meantime i am stuck with the corolla loaner...

It's quite possible it could be just engine knock. It happens on cheap gas, which is what the TC calls for. I had it all the time in my Spec V

Yeah the sound only happened at a certain rpm. I thought it might have been something under the hood or behind the dash but would never have guessed it would have been the srs box. I would try raising it up just in case. It can't hurt.

yeah I have been having the same problem, but I didnt really notice it till after I got my supercharger installed.... but I got it installed very shortly after buying my tC (less than 1000 miles later) I thought it was one of those "rattles" that TRD said wouldnt be covered because of the supercharger, however if you are getting it and dont have a supercharger that will make me go in to the dealear again! (I just had to leave my car for a few days due to the fact that my oil pan was leaking oil and they had to reseal the pan)

Also I know this is off topic, but anyone with the 5sp, do you ever have the transmission not go into a gear? Like mine has problems every once and a while where it has trouble going into 2nd and 3rd, where it grinds like I didnt even put in the clutch even if its all the way to the floor!

Yeah i do not have the supercharger installed... and i am getting it. My dealer just called, they said it is not the engine as they spent 2 days last week looking at that, and not anything loose hanging around, they said Toyota has them checking out the strut towers now... so still no idea what it is...

Yeah i have the same grinding issue sometimes, i always thought it was me lifting the clutch too quickly or not depressing it enough.

even after replacing that "relay" is it still having the issue?

and with mine I shift it with clutch all the way down, and as im putting it into the gear, it wont go at all, and grinds, and for that reason is why I believe it is the syncro's

Alright, i finally got my car back today... altough they didn't fix my problem i must say the dealer did a good job in terms of customer service...

Anyway, they did all that is possible, they recognize the sound so they will have the Toyota tech from HQ down in Maryland i think he said come check it out when he comes to town, supposingly 2 weeks from now probably.

Will keep everyone posted...
