Redesigned TRD S/C Reliability
So I'm unfortunately on S/C #5 but this new one looks different than the other ones that came before it. BTW thank you very much Toyota Platinum Warranty; these guys paid retail for a new unit!
This new one unit has a shinier shaft with much thicker connecting ends. I've searched around and it looks like the first one of these was installed on someone's car may 09. They haven't posted in a while... Does anyone else have and experience with this model? Can I finally expect this one to not rip itself to pieces?

I got the work done at Piercey Toyota in Milpitas. These guys are at the top of their game in customer service and I highly recommend them. I don't know if this was a fluke or if all the replacement units have been redesigned. The part number on my paperwork is the same as the original design.

Hate to burst your bubble, but that design has been out for a wild now and its just as ____ty as the old ones, sorry to put it that way, good luck thou. BTW...I speak out of experience, I've gone through 2 of these and one of the old ones, to me the new shaft cover, bolts and spacers do not help in any way, the real issue here are the shaft itself which is not made up to tolerance, the improper speed bearings at the end of the shaft where the pulley goes and the end of the shaft which connects to the SC itself, all bad designs.......

^^^ Exxxxxxxactly... I had this redesigned SC as well and it only last 7 more monthes than the original. The bearings are the same crappy SKFs with weak speed and heat tolerances. The shaft however is actually a better design but thats it man.

07 is the one to have, but the shaft and bearings will give you problems eventually, but yes this is the one with the least problems, I've been looking for one myself, cause the 05 one is crap, I'm going to modify the end part that mates up with the SC, that piece is not secure enough, I'm going to change it so that I can fit a bearing with rubber shields in there and hold everything in there more secured, hope to have this done by next month.....
