Default Rerouting ZPI J-Pipe & manifold question

Hi all, it's been awhile...

Has anybody tried rerouting that J-pipe in the zpi stage 1 kit? (No luck searching, thanks.) I would like to get rid of that thing and route it DOWN rather than up then down.

Also, has anyone made any modifications to the manifold that came with this kit to keep it from blowing exhaust around the edges? I've heard some theories about cutting slots in it so it has a little wiggle room, but that it's potentially difficult because of the bolt pattern. Has anyone done it? If so do you have line diagrams showing where the cuts are?

I am aware there is a replacement part being made by somebody on this forum - I'd just like to try fix this one first.

Thanks in advance - warmer weather will be here before we know it!

the J pipe...is that the rainbow on top? one of the ZPI guys here had a new one welded...it's going the same way, jsut quite a bit shorter.

And it's TurboToyotas with the replacement mani. If you take a look at it, you mihght just change your mind...that thing is B-E-A-Utiful!

Do I know who did what?
The J-pipe? It was a local vegas boy. Don't remember his SL name, and he's not on very often, but he had a shop here do it that is no longer in business.

you would have to clock the turbo!

Yup, clock the turbo around - the outlet is then shooting straight down. All I would need is a short length of tube and a couple 45 degree couplers - but if I recall there is something in the way. (It's been about 6 months since I last messed with it)

My mani was cut in the center. But from the beginning, I never had a J pipe. I had the turbine clocked, and piped routed from below. At the same time though, I have slim-line fans on the radiator, so there is more room. The outlet on the turbine is not shooting straight down, but more like 45 degrees at the radiator, and then there is a 90 degree coupler coming off.

Have it machined down so it's flat.

One cut vertically right down the middle? How deep? No warping issues?

I'd like to see pics of that section of your pipe routing - it sounds just like how I thought it would be. I saw Rado cut out that side of the radiator fans too, so I might look into that if there's a need to make room. I just want to get rid of that pipe and it'll be all good.

It's one cut in the middle at the top, and one cut in the middle at the bottom. They do not meet each other. The cuts are all the way through from the front side to the back. I can get a pic for you tomorrow when I go put on my new AN fittings for the oil return line. I never liked the J pipe to begin with, so I had it made to the way I wanted.

Sorry for the last post Streeter. But here is that pic. Mani needs to be recoated (attempted to put some high temp paint, and the heat ate the paint like it was nothing). But anyhow, here is the cut.

From my understanding this should help relieve some of the heat-warping issues then right? No more little exhaust leaks?

well this isn't saying that the exhaust wont leak from the welds but its to prevent warping from the flange from the cold to hot temps.

Cool. My manifold flexes from the heat and leaks in various places around the exhaust gasket... mostly top center and the bottom right. The welds are all fine.

Properties of this grade of stainless steel...
