if the bearings are on there tight and look normal you'll be fine, if the shaft is toast you will be able to tell because the bearings will come off. What happens is usually the bearings get seized and the shaft spins in the bearings, then the shaft gets worn down. Here is a picture of a bad shaft, should be uniform size notice the shaved down part where the bearing should be.

So if the bearings are bad they won't slide off? Confused I thought the shaft could be fine and the bearings could still slide off if there bad

Take the shaft out first and go from there.

Harbor freight sells 12 ton bearing presses for $129 with the 20 percent savings coupon. It makes life very very easy when pressing in/out your bearings on the shaft. I put mine in the basement. Pulley puller at pepboys is another beautiful tool to have.

fyi. you won't be able to identify a bad bearing until it's out of the housing. at HAND speed a bearing sounds perfectly fine, but at 2000 RPM it sounds horrible.

if youre banging it out with a hammer, then you have it upside down. flip it so that the long part of the shaft is what you're hitting...

please please be careful not to bend the shaft. otherwise you'll need a new one.

thats why a press is better because it basically uses force to push it out.

the actual shaft is inside of the shaft cover. you have to remove that. Also everything on the right side of your picture needs to come off... yes that stubborn bolt {12 point ferry cap} needs to come off.

Ive actually found that a 12 point bolt {i believe a 13mm} and vise grips work out for me. I take the vise grip and lock it on the 3 pin adapter key then I use a torque wrench and unscrew the bolt. works every time for me.

did you really think TRD/Vortech would make it easy for us??? lol.. yeah right... You have to take it all apart just to get to the bearings... and once you change them out, you get to do this again next year... my advise... get a bearing press/all metric sockets/pulley remover and shave off hours and hours of labor..

I can't get that bolt off the shaft keeps spinning tried putting the pulley on and held it with the belt but when I used the impact gun the key spun out of the slot and jammed between the pulley and shft got the pulley off but back to square one.

Did you put the bolt on the pulley end and hand tighten it before you did this? There is no way the woodruff key should come out unless you didn't have a bolt on there. You probably need a new woodruff key on there, that bolt will come off just keep trying.
