Default S/C'ed and having trouble with the VSV

Any one else having trouble with the VSV sticking open and causing a CEL? I'm about to take it in for the second time after having one replaced. The SC is under warranty but they say the stuck VSV has nothing to do with the SC so its not covered. I think they're wrong and the boost pressure might be causing the problem.

Any thoughts and/or ideas?

tia.

P0456 Faulty gas cap seal causing a minor vac leak. Apparently the seal had corroded already.

My last CEL a week and a half ago was a series of codes that resulted in the VSV getting replaced.

Every other car I have ever owned has been on its original gas cap and over 100,000mi.

if it happens a third time and your car is still less than 2 years old, file a lemon law complaint so toyota will try to fix it a final time. they'll take you a little more seriously then and try their best to fix it.

I thought about it yesterday as I was looking at the FJs. This is my fifth CEL, the second in two weeks having nothing to do directly with the SC. The rest have been things like the charge hose blowing off and such.

so your having a problem with the gas cap coming lose and causing a CEL?

i started having this problem , i kept getting te CEL, and found my gas cap to be lose, but i figured out wat the problem was. the leash on the gascap connecting to the fuel door was actually losening the gas cap as i closed it. so i just cut off the lease voila! problem solved.

nah, the car is solid.
The first few CELs were because the tech used lithium grease rather than a thin bit of motor oil to lube the hose end before slipping it on the unit. Every time the grease would heat up I would blow the charge hose off when I got it up around 8-9lbs even with a clamp on it.
The VSV issue was happening before the SC but I think the SC might have finished it off.

Yes and no... (for those who don't know a loose gas cap can cause a CEL) ...my cap was tight but since the seal was ate up there was still a minor vac leak when the system pressurized.

how do you test/diagnose the vsv being open? and other than cel, are there symptoms?

Is it possible to get the missing link from Synapse Engineering to cure this issue?

I've been thinking about this as well but I don't have a CEL yet. I was thinking of getting the missing link to compensate for the loss in constant vacuum.

The VSV solenoid is used to seeing different varying levels of vacuum in the past to do its job for the EVAP since the motor was NA, but what happens when you now have positive absolute pressure of 5psi, 7psi, 9psi etc for FI applications??

I was told the car should have felt a bit sluggish but honestly I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary other than the cel itself. In fact I even cleared it by disconnecting the battery, the car drove fine and the light came back on two days later.

The Missing Link is designed to work with MAP sensors we have an MAF sensor.

I'm not sure I follow the second part of your question ... the tC is build to be able to run the TRD SC so I assume the VSV is designed with that in mind.
