The reality is that I gave him an ultimatum:

I thought you guys would know this question. My friend who will be helping me put my car back together wants to know if it would be better to build the motor on the stand and then drop it in or to drop the short block in and then build it in the bay? He was thinking if we dropped the short block in first it would be easier to make any connections and hookups with the wires and hard to reach things in the back of the motor.

I think I got his question right.

Thanks!

How the heck are you going to get all that power to the wheels? Super interested to hear about THOSE mods!

I built ScionGT35R's engine on the stand and dropped it in the bay! I have not tried the way you suggest but after working on his car I don't think it would be any easier at all. With the angle the engine sits in and the space limitations around the front engine cover I would recommend against it.
In the end it will be your call. Read and re-read the service manual and examine how you plan to do it. You might do things different than me and there is a possibility that you find a better way to install the engine.
We removed and installed the engine and tranny from the top and I think it is the easier way.
Hints:
-Remove the crossmember and cut a slot to the side of the hole like this one on it. It will make it possible to remove the crossmember without removing the rear mount (which is a real PITA) in case you need to check things later (hope not but just in case)

-Before installing the engine remove the rear mount and cut the metal thing hanging from it (I don't know what it is but I think with polyurethane mounts installed it won't be doing much) as it only occupies space there .

-Make sure the right side half shaft is the last thing to install.

-Make sure you eat fine on those engine installing days and make sure your patience levels are at a high point because you will need that. Believe me!!

at least you did things right I would much rather spend more and have it nice ..than cut corners...and end up paying 3x as much.

She know I been spending some money but she doesn't know much about cars and neither about my accounts or other bussiness I think she doesn't care much because she had what she wants anyway.

And guess what......My wife doesn't work and she drives a 5 series BMW !!! Also here it's a pic of her last ride before the 5 series. I have to change it because my son's car seat didn't fit on the back seat.

I think it more than a good ride for someone that doesn't even work. What you guys think??
