Default taking block to machine shop

hey everyone...im takin my block to the machine shop this week and was wondering just what exactly needs done. Im getting it honed, hot tanked, and decked. What else? The pistons walls are great so no boring needs to be done.

my machine shop charges as follows
to cut sleeves deck block hone all the prep and short block put together all nicely with the crank micropolished and all that was about 1000 out the door

yeah actually i'm going through that process right now. i just got back JE swain coated pistons an need a hone job and to clean the block and have them ground the rings to size. about $300.. Different shops, different rates.. just let them know what you are planning on running the engine on boost or n/a. different clearances for every set up..

Get the usual...clean, hone, decked. BUT you really should get the rotating assembly balanced!! This will include your piston (rings and pins), rods, crank, pulley, and flywheel. If you are going to use main stud instead of OEM main bolts you must have the align hone done on the crank journals. Measure all your clearances first BEFORE you take it so that they can adjust the clearance with the micro polishing on the crank. Im assuming you are going to be using a cometic MLG, if this is the case take your head to get the face resurfaced.

I think you mean hone... If you bore it, then youre going to the next piston size. Blue printing isnt really going to do you much good unless he has a digital torque wrench. Hopefully he does.

Blue printing is the process in which the rod/main oil clearances are mic'd and measured to the .0001" If its not a blue print build it only gets a quck plasti-gauge check. You couldnt give me a digital torque wrench. Dont trust electronics. I calibrate my torque wrenches every monday morning. Make sure they have the pistons in hand before the **** and bone. Be sure to tell them how much boost you are gonna run before they get started. get it balanced, decked and surface the head too, check line hone, pin fit rods and pistons, knotch the block for after market rods, file-fit the rings.
