Default tC's 2AZ-FE..Does it have Forged internals?

Some people say it has forged cranks, some say forged pistons... i am not able to find anything OFFICIAL that says any of this.

So what are the facts? What forged internal parts does the Scion tC's engine have?

I heard after the 05 rod issues, they are now forged. Not positive though. Best to find out from peeps who've rebuilt the motor on 05 through 07.

Forged crank... not sure about rods. Pistons are cast garbage.

This should clear things up for everyone! Hope this helps guys. If you have any more questions let me know.

This information is cited from the Toyota/Scion PDFs provided to me by Toyota.

A cylinder block made of aluminum alloy along with a
magnesium alloy diecast head cover is used.

The connecting rods and caps are made of high-strength
steel.

The forged crankshaft has five journals and eight weights.

Pistons are cast.

Difference from 05/06 to the upgaded 07+:
The shape of the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) baffle plate has been
modified to enhance oil flow volume.

Along with modifying the engine coolant passage, the shape of the cylinder
head gasket has been modified.

Oil jets have been added to help cool the pistons.

A water jacket spacer has been added to optimize temperature distribution
across the cylinder bore walls.

The thickness and tension of the top and 2nd piston rings have been
reduced in order to reduce friction.

The shape of the pistons has been modified to change the compression
ratio.

The crankshaft bearing groove is deeper in the middle of the bearing than
at the ends. This enhances engine oil lubrication in the middle of the bearing.

So does that make the 07 better for boost than previous years? More reliable?

Well compression went up in 07 so for boost it's not necessarily better. The oil squirters are a HUGE plus and help cool and lubricate the engine more effectively.

The capacity of the oil pan in the 07 has also been increased a little bit which will also help with temps.

The head is better too. The intake cam has more lift, and the exhaust valves are treated for more heat.

Everything but the compression ration on the 07 is better for boost. If you're tearing apart an engine, then the 07 is a better starting point, mainly due to the oil squirters int he block.

If i were to get forged Pistons and not rods how much do you think i can turn up the boost?

If the compression ratio was increased (from what to what, BTW?) and the intake lift was increased, and all other things were the same, shouldn't the 07 be putting out more horsepower? I know you can't trust the HP ratings the manufacturers give, but their numbers are almost identical from 05/06 to 07.

anybody correct me if i'm wrong.

- compression increased from 9.6 to 9.8
- redline increased from 6250 to 6500
- Toyota advertised HP changed from 160 HP @ 5700 RPM to 161 HP @ 6000 RPM
- Toyota advertised TQ changed from 163 ft lbs @ 4000 RPM to 162 ft lbs @ 4000

i've also seen in different forums show the 2007 tC baseline dynos AROUND 150 HP rather than the 140 HP for the 2005-2006 models.

The exhaust manifold and intake manifold design also changed. Add an altered tune with many differen't components and the higher compression ratio doesn't necessarily mean more horsepower.

I've noticed the 07s making considerably more WHP on the dyno with the turbo than the 05/06 engines. Yes the compression is higher, but I think the camshaft modifications, in addition to the throttle body mod make for some nice power adders.

I believe I am proof of this.
