Default Thinking about turbos....

Haha, anyways so the question is - what turbo should I look at? Im currently running a T3/T61 w/ .63 exhaust housing that has a bit of shaft play and has needed a rebuild for awhile - havent got aroudn to it - but now im thinking about just going with something diff. For my setup - an auto - the t3/t61 is a lil slow to spool - and i dont really need the ~325-350 whp potential of it anyways. Ive been looking at either a T3/T4 50 trim with .48 exhaust housing or possibly a t3 super 60. Has anyone tried the super 60 on a tc? It seems it may have a little better top end than the 16g or 18g but would have the nice low end spool. Whats you guy's opinion on this?

my opinion change to manual! or if staying on auto a .48ar turbine housing is good for auto! super 60 would be over kill in my opinion if your auto on a .63ar. try smaller. search around here there has been million of turbo post.

Yeah - i prolly shouldve clarified - im speaking of a T3 Super 60 - not a 60-1 the super 60 is a pretty small turbo and yea regardless I'll def be going with a .48 exhaust. My .63 just sucks for spool lol and yea having the t61 compressor side is useless with my auto

Also - another question to throw out - ive looked for pics to reference but I cannot seem to find any. Comparing a 5 bolt .48 exh side to a 5 bolt .63 exh side, is the flange position relative to the inlet flange different from one to the other? Basically, I fabbed my current downpipe based on the .63 housing im currently using, if i went to a .48 housing using the same 5 bolt flange, would it cause my downpipe not to fit right?

If you want cheap: Got for a T04E 46 trim with a .48 Stage 2 wheel.

If you want expensive, go for a GT2871.

would T04E 46 trim work as good as GT2871...cuz i'm looking for my auto tC too...and Garrett's GT28 looks really good? i'm just confused cuz..if T04E would be about the same their would be no point in spending more.
thanks

GT2871 or GT2876 will probably make more power and spool quicker.. don't get me wrong though, the T04E 46 trim is a good turbo - especially when you consider the price difference.

What are your goals? Are you planning on making this a track car but still auto? If you're planning on getting the best of the best, get the GT.. if you want a nice affordable street car, get the T04E 46.

The smaller the better for an Auto in my opinion..

However you also have to consider traction.. if you never plan on having good tires or suspension, you might actually want the lag so the boost builds gradually. If you spool too quickly without traction, you'll just be spinning tires all day.

C'mon Don.. he has a slushbox. A 57 trim with a .63 AR Stage3 will be too much for it.

i do understand it but if getting smaller turbo would'nt it suck on the top end power? i'm looking for both thing..low and top end? am i making sense?

Well you're saying you want your cake and eat it too..

Then upgrade your tires to something wide and sticky and get a GT2876.
