Default Toyota Turbo Kit

I was with a friend at the Scion dealership the other day and the dealer told me Toyota is offering a turbo kit for the tC which is covered under warranty. He specifically said it was a Toyota kit not a third party but I wasn't able to get any more information because I was in a rush. Anyone else heard of this or should I go back to the dealer and investigate?

First, he is on crack. They make a Supercharger kit, not a turbo kit. It is a TRD unit and the compressor is made by vortech I believe. Part of the accesories catalog.

I am guessing that due to the tunability and reliablity issues that come with nearly every turbo, they wont offer one. That is why you see few turbo OEM setups out there on cheaper cars. It takes more money to get one built right and to install one than it does a SC setup for the most part. Problem is.. the TRD SC seems to be getting quite the rep for failing early in life (brackets, seals, etc).

Actually, Chris Rado and World Racing are currently working on making their descedant turbo kit available thorugh the dealer. There is already a post on here about this. So, what he said was not entirely inaccurate.

He probably meant the supercharger and just doesn't know the difference. That sounds like the parts guys at my dealership.

that same thread has just about squashed the rumor of it being offered by Toyota and covered under warranty.
and like engifineer said, they just arent reliable enough to put under manufacturer warranty ... even though the s/c seems to have its fair share ...

Is the sales person on crack, not likely, just confused. Or is he?

Take a REALLY good look at this picture, look at the engine bay. Look at the structural mounts, placement of all the fluid tanks, brakes, air cleaner, fuse box, alternator, dip stick, strut brace, strut mounts and wiper blades. Hmmm, as I ponder. Yes you are correct, this is a Turbo charged top mounted inter-cooled SCION????

actually they have gone backwards in evolutionary chain with the folks that work at dealerships... Or they are just children of the cousins that married and reproduced.

Sorry but here in PR we don't get the starlet since the mid 80's!
