Tranny swap vs Building auto
hey well i have a turbo tc but with the auto tranny and im just wondering a few things:
tranny swap vs building the auto.
A) What would be more efficient for me and less problematic?
B) What would be less costly?

It really depends on what your plans are. If you want a mild turbo setup (less than 250 hp), you should be fine with an auto. You'll just need to get a tranny cooler to keep things running smoothly.
If you go over 250, you can still do it with an auto, but a little more work is required because the stock tranny starts to slip.

Well from experience, consider the 5 speed swap. Auto trannies never seem to last especially after the abuse they get. You will realisitically be rebuilding that guy probably every 1-2 years.
Get the 5 speed swap or get a used 5 speed tC.

i've gone through the same dilemma for some time now..
manual swap will be a lot of work, and be prepared for the possibility of much longer down time then expected. also, piecing together the parts that are needed will take some time..tranny, harness, ecu, shifter assembly, gauges, etc. there are a lot of little things that will be needed. i thought it would be really difficult to go through with this without having a 5spd tc sitting next to my car ready to do the swap (for me anyways). also, consider the fact that swapping the tranny will greatly depreciate your car. even if you don't plan on selling it or trading in, if an accident occurs, the value of your car will be much lower in the insurance companies eyes.
now as for building the auto, like everyone said, it really depends on your goals. the tranny cooler is a must. if your project is mild, torque converter and mayb valve body upgrade should be ok. if you want to go high hp, then maybe look into the fully built tranny. i don't know about replacing a built tranny every two years..maybe if it's getting abused on a daily basis. but if it's still your DD and you only beat on it every now and then, then i think a properly built tranny should last you for quite some time. my bro's IPT built tranny has been on his car for a good 2-3 years now and absolutely no problems.

I'm doing a swap hopefully this winter and I want to go for high hp, around 450hp range with a decent DD. Not completely DD but like a few days a week type of thing.
A swap will take time but thats what the winter is for, the snow shall keep me off the streets.
