Default TRD Supercharger - Tamper Proof Bolt Info

So I called both TRD and Vortech, and neither of them knew about the bolt/key or how to get a hold of it???

Is anybody out there who is working on, or knows, a way to remove this thing?

They know.. they just dont sell them to the public because some unethical pr!cks think it is ok to swap pullies, put on a new tamper proof cap and then go claim warranty if they mess something up with a smaller pulley on the charger.

I believe you have to cut it off. That is if you are talking about the tamper proof cap on the sc pulley?

he's not talking about the cap. he means the bolt on the NEW SC kit.

i have no experience with it, and dont own a SC'd tc... but it looks suspiciously similar to some wheel locks ive seen (hard to tell its just a little out of focus). Seems to me if you arent worried about warranty and what not though, just get it off by any means necessary and replace it with a bolt thats threaded the same....

I wonder if a gator grip could get that loose
http://www.seenontv.com/prod-pages/gatorgrip.html

If not you could alway try dremling a slot across the top of it and get it off with a big flat head screw driver

oh and if you cant seem to find a good way to get if off theres a few different ways to get it off i can think of... all involve destroying the bolt....
1. get one of these http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00952164000

2. If theres room, hammer a smaller socket onto it, you might get lucky and force it off like that

3. If you or someone you can know can weld, weld a different head onto it - might get lucky and it will grab well enough to break it loose.

4. get a cutting wheel/dremel tool in there and notch it.. make it flat on 2 sides and force it off with vise grips or channel locks.

obviously all of these are last ditch efforts though :-p find a key if you can.

Well.. they are ***** because of the little morons that were doing what I said before with the cap. You can thank the kids that mod, break the car and try to fraud warranty for stuff like this. If I were TRD and offered the warranty I would do the same thing. There have been plenty of people wanting to buy the cap after putting on a smaller pulley posting online, no telling how many people screwed toyota for warranty that way.

It looks tapered on the outside, so a smaller socket wont work. Your best bet if that is the case is to either grind flat spots on it for a wrench or cut the head off with a cutting wheel and replace the bolt.

Hey, Dieselstation.. what part of SoCal are you from. I'd love to meet up sometime to check out eachothers rides. Or are you perhaps going to be attending the Scion Triathalon at Irwindale next Wed?

good luck with that. there's a reason we call it the ___-tor grip around here. it can't handle a lot of torque. Well, it can't handle a little amount of torque either...

My car is Modded and the s/c was replaced under warrany, but thats because my uncle is a manager at a Toyota dealer, and is friends with the warranty manager. So I don't worry to much about warranty.

IF the car is modded, and the mod doesnt cause the failure then you were fine getting warranty service. But people want to run a smaller pulley, and if the sc or the motor goes they want to make it look stock and get warranty work done. A-holes like that are what makes the manufacturers so tough on warranty stuff like this.

is it just a cap on a bolt, or is that the actual bolt?

a Simple crack in the housing, you'd think they could just replace the housing... but they said it would be easier to just replace the Charger assembly. Not the whole kit, just the charger... thats why im a 06 s/c with a 07 tamper-proof bolt. Now I have a NST 9.5psi pulley I cant even use, well untill I find a way to remove this damn bolt.
