Default TU Track day Recap @ NSS *Video update 1/28*

Yesterday was a track day at the Nashville SuperSpeedway. I had a BLAST yesterday. I got a chance to finally try out my new mods (suspension, tires, sway bars).

My old time was 1:20.352

-N/A
-Stock airbox
-Stock header
-Full exhaust
-Emanage Ultimate
-Factory tires with about 20% tread left
-ES Motor Mounts
-Tein H-tech springs
-TRD LSD

That time was done during the Redline Time Attack event.

Itching to finally get rid of these tires and get some worthy suspension. Since then I have added:

-Progress Technologies Rear Sway bar
-Hankook R-S2 tires
-Tein SS Coilovers

With the addition of those 3 mods, I knocked off 2.3 sec!!! With a best lap time of 1:18.074 according to my Trackmasters Datalogging software on my Motorola Droid phone. It was AWESOME, the TrackMasters software proved to be VERY accurate. Car was pretty stable and predictable. I knocked of 2.5sec and that was on a damp track. I am shooting for the 1:11 when the car goes back on boost.

I was booking it pretty good, on my first session, my fastest lap time was a 1:19.647. Second session out is when I turned the 1:18 and then last session ran 1:19.403 as my fastest time.

There were a wide variety of makes and models out to run the track. There were a handful of older model Z06's (2000-2004 body style). I was complemented on a couple of occassions on how quick the car was (and this is stock power). I had a cool guy come up to me and the conversation went like this:

I see the guy walk up to the car and he kneels down to chat with me through the window as I was pulling the video camera off it's mount.

Me: Hey wazup man.

Guy: Man you were pretty quick out there

Me: You think? Man, it use to be boosted and it's a complete night and day difference, so I can't wait to go back on boost and run again.

Guy: Yeah man, I'm new to this track so I don't know it that well, but I let you go past me and see if I could follow your lines, but I just couldn't keep up with you through the corners.

Me: Yeah, it's doing pretty good. Track is kinda damp but not to bad, hopefully it will dry up some.

Guy: Yeah, hopefully. So, what tires are you running on.

Me: Hankook tires.

Guy: Oh, I thought you were running slicks man.

Me: Naw (lol).

Me: So, which car were you?

Guy: The Black Z06.

At that point, I was a bit taken back by that one...lol. Passing the Z06 and having him say he couldn't catch me was a good testament that an experienced driver on said track can out run a non-experienced guy in a technically faster car.

But I did feel like I was haulin butt though. Only one other tC was running and that was my boy Slikk in my club. I got vids of us trying to battle it out, but the logistics weren't always matched up (lined up in the grid earlier than him).

Now the Cool Stuff.

I have a full feature vid of the TrackMasters software during the event that I need to load. But check this out, it's an awesome App for us Motorola Droid people. It's a $4.99 app and WELL WORTH IT.

Google TrackMasters for more technical info, but here are the screen shots from the data capture from yesterday.

Note: On the really slow laps, I slowed down so that I could try and locate Slikk (kevin) on the track so we can do some wheel to wheel action and see who can keep up with who. Either I slowed down on the track, or I drove through pit lane for the sake of finding him on the track and matching up to him. You will see once I get the vid loaded up.

Slikk (Kevin) was struggling with the 1:20sec barrier. He could not break out of the 1:20's.

His mods are:

2007 Scion tC
Injen Intake
Tein SS Coilovers
TRD sway bars
Riken Raptor tires (daily driven on, and not that great)
Brand new Slotted rotors
Brand new EBC brake pads
SS Lines with a brake fluid flush
SS Clutch line with a clutch fluid flush
ES Motor Mounts

He changed out all the lines like 2 days before the event (either that or finished up the night before the event). Beaded the brakes in, and then went racing.

He was determined to break my old lap time even. Best he was able to click off was a 1:20.504. So, he was not able to click off those precious tenths to beat my old time.

Edit, I just went back to the RTA forum for my official recorded Lap Time during the event.

Fastest lap time was Not 1:20.584, it was 1:20.352. So, Slikk did not beat my old lap time either.

^^edited the post above.

When the season is underway, we visit the AutoX every other Sunday. It runs pretty regular here. For the Big Tracks it just depends on what the schedule is like.

If you know how to do it properly that is. Not confident in my technique yet to run it that way. Once I actually get "formal" race training, then I will start utilizing the technique.

Man, this is what I like to see and hear. Travis, you hold it down for the scions! I agree with Domo, heel-toe shifting will drop those times down definitely. I used to practice Hell toe shifting when ever I downshifted at stoplights. Eventually It just became a normal driving habit, and was a natural as shifting. Definitely made Canyon Runs more enjoyable too.

Can't wait to get mine on the track. Just got my parts back from WPC. Decided to treat the hubs, sleeves, forks, and shafts too so I'll have smoother shifting.

Finally, after much tweaking to get the video and data spliced together (learning Sony Vegas Pro on the fly), I have my new personal best lap loaded up. I have some more vid to come.

None

So the handling has yet to be optimized. I have a set of Ingals camber bolts that I had installed, but then removed cause you really need an anlignment to dial them in, and I don't have an alignment yet.

Plan to get the coilovers re-valved to bring them up to par and be able to handle higher spring rates, and also get the pillow ball mounts to go on them.
