Tuned S/C sometimes faster?
I saw these 2 tech dudes at Toyota [both have MT tCs one with a tuned S/C the other one has Greddy PnP.]
I ask them what is the advantage of the S/C, the S/C guy said that the S/C [with 550cc injectors, tuned AEM standalone, 3” custom exhaust/intake, stage 4+ clutch w/ short shifter, lightweight pulleys and flywheel, better pistons, sticky tires and other minor extras can take on a turbo tC from a stop easily. The Greddy guy agreed but, he said turbo will take on even an EVO from a roll.
Are they telling the truth? And which is a better race, dig or roll? Also will the S/C keep its power band when taking on corners?
Thanks a lot! : )

i'm going to say that they are full of themselves. i mean, thinking about it...the most powerful supercharged tc is icenine's with 311 whp. his s/c pushes 12 psi, ripp mods cam, and alot of other stuff. but i have no idea what kinda 1/4 mile time he posts.
turbo's are faster these days with stuff like ball bearing turbos and how they can push more psi and make full boost at like 3000 rpms while superchargers only hit full boost at redline. turbos are faster.

both have their advantages if you ask me... i was gonna go with the 'charger til the dealership ticked me off something wicked. Sometimes turbo lag gives you time to catch some traction through the twisties (unless you are amazing at brake boosting) the s/c is probably gonna be quicker because you wont be spooling down every time you let off the gas... straight from a roll tho... yea... turbo is going to probably stomp the s/c'er just due to the fact that it peaks at higher power than anything other than a fairly heavily modified s/cer
But honestly, if you dont know a pretty good amount about cars, and arent fairly comfortable under the hood.... get the s/c.. or learn. these are you options

Why do people use standalone rather than PnP Emanage? I heard that some shops spend 3+ days tuning it on new cars, what are the advantages?
Also, if TRD would make a turbo, what brand turbo could it be?
I want to go the turbo way but, is the tC Turbo as "whiny" like a stage3 STi, or is it more refined?

the advantage of standalone is that it controls the entire engine, everything. with a piggyback ecu, it isn't controlling the car, the factory computer is, the piggyback just sort of lies to the factory computer, or argues with it to get the proper fuel, ignition, valve timing and so on. the emanage isn't in control of the car.
if trd made it a turbo...i don't know, turbonetics, or garett probably.

and to answer your question... at least on my setup (zpi stage 0/1) i would NOT describe it as tame... in fact its insanely loud.... but you barrrely here the turbo at all... all you can hear is exhaust, open wastegate, and blow off valve when ya let off the gas... not "whiny" though.. .raspy maybe

Yeah, 10 anything with S/C'er is rather poor performance, but what do you expect. My boy Nick with bolt-on's runs 10.1 in the 1/8th, and I don't even consider him a good driver.
And last time I checked, Icenine did do an 1/8th mile pass resulting in a mid/low 9 area. He said the track was crappy and that he wasn't a good driver.
