Default Turbo

I have a 2009 Scion tC. If I install a turbo on my car, someone told me I would have to reenforce the engine and exhaust. So I was just wondering because I've never had a turbo or dealt with one. Is it a lot of work, or is it as simple as just installing it? Thanks.

yea gotta reinforce that exhaust. it's tricky that tc exhaust.

but in all seriousness you need to do more research. turbo's are rarley simple in any aspect. your question unfortunatley showed your lack of experience and just tells us it's a bad idea for you to put a turbo on your tc.

^^^x2. hes not saying u need to be a rocket scientist, but at minimal, u should have some basic mechanical skills. our cars tend to be tricky and tempermental. we may sound harsh, but were lookin out for urs& ur cars best interest.

Guys if your going to post try to be a bit more helpful.

To op alot of kits out come with every thing needed to install except things like oil and vac lines and tune. Many suggest upgrading to poly motor mount inserts and larger exhaust but those are not 100% necessary. If your in the market for a turbo kit make a few calls to the place you plan to purchase from to find out exactly what is needed to install.

I am not very car mechanical. I know what I want out of my car, but the work behind I have no clue about. That's what my brother is for. He does all the mechanic work. I was just looking for something to give me a bit more speed and acceleration. If not a turbo, then what else could do that? As far as like an hp boost. And thanks for the input.

unfotunately, other than some kind of forced induction, theres really nothing on the market thatll give u a substantial increase.

with a turbo u can see about 250hp on an auto trans, and around 300hp with a manual trans.

i would start by researching a complete kit. its gonna be the best/easiest/safest route for ya. make sure you have some sort of engine management/piggyback. also, make some calls to tuners and see if there is anyone thats familiar with tuning out platform as well as ur particular choice in management and go from there.

don't forget gents generally with a turbo kit comes a need to replace the clutch. if you arent mechanically savy and do it yourself you can look at spending 1K on clutch and install alone!

i stand by my original post. it may not be helpful but its true. with a boosted car you need at the least a basic mechanical skill or a very good friend who will put up with you until you learn the in's and out's of your own vehicle.

Thanks guys. I may just leave the performance for now except for maybe cold-air intake and exhaust, and just work on visual. That's something I do know a little bit about.

What's a good exhaust setup for a Scion? I know cat-back is better than axle-back, but what's a good manufacturer that sounds good?

were not tryin to steer u awayfrom boosting ur car. just giving u a heads up as to the road ur gonna be lookin at. its a learning process. some of has have learned from alot of trial and error. this is why we said u should have some basic mechanical knowledge. its one of those things that if ur willing to learn and apply urself, ull save urself alot of headaches, and ull learn something on top of that. theres alot of things that u can learn from this forum, just search and ask ?'s. someone will chime in and help as best they can.

Act makes good stuff. Travis runs a weak ___ trd clutch. Just stay away from competition clutch and you will be good man.

I vouch for ACT. How many other single disks hold up with repeated abuse at 500+wtq? I have the 6 puck sprung disc with Xtreme pressure plate and its done great

How is the deliveability on that clutch compared to say the cc stage 4. I need to replace my clutch again and I'm looking at going bigger.
