Default Turbo sizing

I'm looking for a new turbo and need some help choosing the best size for my app. I've found lots of compressor maps to help figure out the cold side but I haven't found much useful info on turbine wheel/housing sizing. I'm only looking for 200-250whp with fast spool on a stock block.

08 XB 2AZ-FE
Treadstone cast manifold
Tial 38mm wastegate, 7.25 lb spring, recirc. dump
2.5" downpipe, oem S-pipe, oem mid-pipe and cat, TRD axle-back.
2" charge piping to IC
2.5" charge piping from IC to TB
2.75" intake piping, 3" AEM dry-flow cone filter
Greddy Type S BOV (recirc)
AEM FIC, Boomslang harness
440cc Deatschwerks injectors
170F thermostat
NGK BKR7EIX


I'm thinking that a T3/T04B or E fits the bill but I'm not sure about whether to get a .48 or .63 A/R hot-side, stage 1 or 2 wheel. A .60 A/R compressor seems right but what trim? 40, 46, 50? It also seems like a little T3-60 trim might work well. Any advice is appreciated. TIA.

Thanks. Nice turbo and the price is right but... I need a 5-bolt hot-side. Is .48 A/R big enough?

.48 will spool fast, which you said you wanted. Look around on that site and others. There are some good options around that price.

+1. also if you want to help spool further, i suggest going with a full turbo back exhaust, keeping the stock midpipe and s pipe put some unwanted back pressure on the turbo.

If you are seriously only looking for 200-250whp your choice in wheel trim and a/r are irrelevant.


My experience--> t3/t04B .48a/r @ 8lbs (550cc+emanage, 10.5:1 afr) = 250whp/251wtq, 100% stock

any combo t3/t4 will give you what you want.

personally after 2 different turbos that had a .48 hotside ..i dont like it every freaking hill id go up id be spooling my turbo.....i feel much more relaxed with a .63 its full spools at 3k perfect for anything .48 was full spolled at like 2k im no fan but maybe thats what you want

Thanks to everyone for your help. What do you think of Blaast Performance and this turbo?

GARRETT T3 / T04B "S" trim (130-350 HP)

TURBO SPECIFICATIONS:

compressor wheel: 48.4 / 69.9 mm 48 "S" Trim
compressor housing: 0.60 a/r T04B

center section: oil cooled journal bearings

Turbine wheel: 68 trim (stage1)
Turbine housing .48 a/r (.63 a/r upgrade available for 280+ HP)

That "compressor map" doesn't tell anyone anything. It's not a real compressor map...look at the axes. It's just Blaast Performance's representation of what HP could be achieved, in their opinion.

Also, Blaast Performance has mixed reviews. Google the name, and find out what you can. Some love them, and some would not even step anywhere near them. I wouldn't step anywhere near them, but that's up to you.

Yeah, Blaast took some liberties with that map. They must have assumed a VE figure, air temp and then changed the X-axis from airflow to HP. Still, that turbo should be very close to ideal for my app. As for Blaast Performance, I have no idea how good they are. I am 100% certain that a properly rebuilt Garrett turbo would be every bit as reliable as a new one but whether Blaast delivers that level of quality is unknown to me.

dezod preloaded map on Emanage. (Old S1 kit.) Just showing how whatever combo he goes with will reach his goal of 200-250whp. The 10.5:1 afr's were baseline's when i started tuning with dezod's basemap. Final product was 270ish whp, but beside the point.

whoa thanks for the info on blaast performance....i have a knock off t3/t4 to4e at home that can use a complete garrett rebuild for only 260

I like partial throttle boost Makes the car much peppier to drive around town where I do almost all of my driving. 48ar on stage 2 T3/T40E Turbonetics BB. It's almost like driving a supercharged car with the fast spool time. If you have a good tune, there is no reason to try to stay out of boost. On cruise control up hills, I don't hit boost.

^^ haha gas will be terrible! but i dont care i love to hear spool.. i boost when i can.. on uphills as long you keep your foot light on the pedal you should just be boosting 0-2 psi

I boost 5 psi pretty regularly and still get 26-30 depending on highway or city. Max boost is 9 psi. With a log mani, 48 ar, and ball bearing, the thing spools really quick. No way around it unless you wanna drive like a granny!
