Default Turbocharge Auto-Trans

Although I do not have the money now to turbo my 2007 tC A/T, I have begun to research the idea of turbo'ing it, in hopes of seeing that it is a viable option. After talking to Rob from descendant, I now know that the main problem with an automatic transmission is the drive train. Rob as well as many others have said that the max hp would be 250 +/- . I really dont know to much about cars, let alone drive trains in general, but after looking at this picture I have higher hope:

What part of the drive train is actually weak? Would that mean getting a new clutch, axle, transmission, etc?

I know there is a Engine/D-T section but my topic is for the purpose of turbocharging.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Ive read the sticky but it doesnt really show which part of the drive train is actually weak. Although my picture was for a manual/t wasnt it.

Several parts of the auto go at 250+hp. Those parts are the clutches, plates(not sure of name) and torque convertor. If u want big hp on an auto plan on four grand in trans alone. If u keep it under 250 who(which is probably 300 crank at least) you'll do fine. Speaking from personal expierience, a valvebody upgrade(though s pia to install) is worth it.

Being one of the more recent turbo autos (and only in my state to my knowledge) pm me if u want more info

might even sell ya my kit for cheap soon....

On an Auto I would not go past 8PSI if your broke or 10PSI if you have money to fix it.

The turbo wont be in place until I have finished college, thus that is 5 years until turbo'ing. (1 more year of high school + 4 years of college). 3min, ill definitely PM you when I have more questions.

Thanks for the tip Frizz!

ehhh...if this is a 5 year plan, the better idea would be to just save your money and buy a new faster car. would be a good way to build up your credit too. after 5 years, you're tc will be fairly worn and you might be at the cross roads of whether or not you want to keep it anymore. you might have lots of miles on the engine and transmission. could get into accidents or have problems.

oh, and also, to think about the weak point in the drivetrain of the automatic tC versus a manual...think about it...the only think changed on a manual tc to get over 250 whp is the clutch. the rest, driveshafts, engine, etc are fine to over 300 whp. the difference is the transmission, so what has to be replaced on the transmission is the problem. valve body upgrade, torque converter, trans oil cooler. etc.

Like some have said, just build up your cash and I'd say look into different cars if you have 100,000 miles plus and still want to mod in five years. Good thing is your researching now so you'll be informed later on. You never know though, your car might be going on six years old and only have 59 thousand miles on it like me and I just recently turbo'ed it. I do want a 350z or g35, but car payments again and higher insurance payments would suck.

Actually the solenoids might be the first to go. If those malfunction or even stop working, those will be the reason for any mechanical damage to the transmission.

The first issue here is not the transmission its you asking about a clutch when your car is not a manual! Save up and get a book about turbocharging and then save some more and get a car that is stock turbocharged (GTI, jetta GLI, Genesis Coupe, WRX)

Lol, this topic is 3 months old....anyways when i posted the pic I had little to no knowledge but now I have gained more. I still think I will go turbo after college, but deciding to go manual is also an idea.

I dont care! I do what I want!! LOL I kid. But manual is definitely the way to go. I learned to drive stick in one day back when i was 19. But that one day was all the time i ever had on a manual until the tC when i bought it March 2007. I wont go back to an automatic car! Thats what my truck is for! I love driving stick. It is just much more enjoyable and you feel more in control.

250whp is not 300 top end... im turboing my tc (which is an auto) and up to 250 with a tranny cooler ul be fine. You could get a valve body upgrade which is what the guys are talking about above me that will help out a great deal. A company here in jersey does em, its 600 for the parts and then a lot more for the install lol.. and if ur doing this is in 5 years it wount be worth it trust me ul have to many miles on it just save up and get some german engineering!!

Ill be going to college next year, so by the time college is done it will be 5 years. In college it is rare that I will do much driving, so I wont rack up alot of miles.

either way by then you'll prob be bored with the car because could be possible by then all the cry babies will have it to where emissions is the standard anywhere and you'll have no luck ever getting turbo past emissions testing
