Turbos and Emissions
Will a Greddy Turbo Pass an emissions test? More specificaly, a Washington State Emissions test. I know this a lame question, but it's something I really need to know.

because not every car has a catalytic converter in the factory header. unfortunately the tC does. by replacing it with a turbo manifold, you violate federal emissions regulations.
you might be able to pass a sniffer, but you probably won't pass a visual. i dont remember how strict they are up here. the last time i had to get an emissions test was when i had my old camry.

With our catted DP, we have had people pass inspections in some states. As far as CA, I have seen some people make it and others not.....I guess it depends on the shop you go to.
Our catted DP will pass a sniffer in a 49/50 states, but no aftermarket cat in CA will pass on an OBDII vehicle.

So with a greddy kit it's out of the question? We only have the sniffer inspections here, but they're every two years so next year I'll have to do one. How hard would it be to pull out the turbo for the test?

Anyway, it's been mentioned that removing the primary cat on the exhaust manifold is a federal crime, however, there are always shops that will work around the rules if you talk to the right people... but do so at your own risk.

I guess that's a solution, just be ready for the labor. Since you'd only be using a piggy-back computer for your tune instead of a full-on flash, I wouldn't see any problems outside of wanting to shoot yourself in the face about mid-way through the tear-down.
Just be sure to save all of your stock parts and make sure that whoever is installing it makes no permanent modifications that could prevent it's return to stock.
