Default Turbos and Emissions

Will a Greddy Turbo Pass an emissions test? More specificaly, a Washington State Emissions test. I know this a lame question, but it's something I really need to know.

No turbo kit will be emission friendly.

So there's no chance that it will pass, whatsoever?

And how could that be true when companies like greddy can make kits that are 50 state legal, which means that they are passing CARB Inspections...?

because not every car has a catalytic converter in the factory header. unfortunately the tC does. by replacing it with a turbo manifold, you violate federal emissions regulations.

you might be able to pass a sniffer, but you probably won't pass a visual. i dont remember how strict they are up here. the last time i had to get an emissions test was when i had my old camry.

I thought only people California have to worry about emissions. I guess you're not safe unless if you live in Alaska or Florida.

The Turbonetics w/ cat stands a good chance of passing emissions. A visual inspection will fail you right off the bat.

Edit: Almost forgot that Dezod carries a catted kit!

With our catted DP, we have had people pass inspections in some states. As far as CA, I have seen some people make it and others not.....I guess it depends on the shop you go to.

Our catted DP will pass a sniffer in a 49/50 states, but no aftermarket cat in CA will pass on an OBDII vehicle.

So with a greddy kit it's out of the question? We only have the sniffer inspections here, but they're every two years so next year I'll have to do one. How hard would it be to pull out the turbo for the test?

No, Turbonetics does offer a catted DP (I believe it was the result of building a kit for TRD before they went with the S/C).

Anyway, it's been mentioned that removing the primary cat on the exhaust manifold is a federal crime, however, there are always shops that will work around the rules if you talk to the right people... but do so at your own risk.

I guess that's a solution, just be ready for the labor. Since you'd only be using a piggy-back computer for your tune instead of a full-on flash, I wouldn't see any problems outside of wanting to shoot yourself in the face about mid-way through the tear-down.

Just be sure to save all of your stock parts and make sure that whoever is installing it makes no permanent modifications that could prevent it's return to stock.

We were the 1st to the market on this approach, as our kit was released before T-netics.

the answer to your question depends on how your state emmision tests your vehicles. goto your states motor vehicle website and read the rules. its the only way your gunna get an accurate answer to your question. every states emmisions laws are different.

Correct, NYS is just an OBD2 scan. If you have no CEL's, in theory your fine!
