Default Used turbo safe??

So ive heard the whole dont turbo on a budget thing and i get it dont bother trying to explain it to me. But when it comes to saving some extra bucks..... im allll for it

So is buying a used turbo (say turbotoyotas or dezod) safe?
I heard i would have to take it to someone to check the turbos seals and ect. but i all ready have a guy for that!

So is it a good idea or is there more involved??

It all depends on how the turbo was treated prior, and gauging on how I have seen most people drive when they have a turbo tC, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a close friend to look at or rebuild the turbo!

A buddy of mine had to get his seals fixed on his turbo. Took it to this guy that used to have a shop and fixed everything for 2 hundo.
So with the turbo im gonna go to him and have him check it for me.
Just wondering if theirs anything else i need to do or be aware about?

CUse if everything else is good except for the turbo and maybe a few replacements then im all for saving some money and gettin a used

a used quality turbo should be good, turbos dont really get easily damaged unless misused or not installed or not cared properly.. on factory turbocharged cars (where its setup properly) the turbo will last a very long time.. but yeah the amount of stress can cause the turbo to wear faster too so always look on that

So basically as long as the turbos in good shape then its fine to buy and run a used turbo kit

its just like buying a used car... you are taking a chance, it could work out in your favor or you could run into problem 500 miles downt the road.

Yeah.. just have them replace the seals and recheck all clearances.. and make sure they rebalance everything.. that's important.

IMO take the turbo to a trusty mechanic so he can check it out, a used turbo is sometimes just as good as a new one depending on millage and how it was treated. For the price it works itself out.
