Default Verifying Proper TRD ECU Reflash

I've had my supercharger for almost 2 months and since I got it, have notice when I punch the gas directly after driving moderately that smoke comes out of my exhaust (I can see this through my rear-view).

So I took it to the dealer so they check it out and say it's normal. A day after, I got a check engine light and turns out the catalytic converter on my header died. Dealer replaces under warranty, has no explanation as to why it happened, and simply says the car was running extremely rich. I suggested it may be the ECU was not reflashed properly or at all and the mechanic swears it was done correctly. So I take the car home today and there's no more CEL with the new header, but I'm still blowing out that same smoke at WOT. The service manager told me they ran tests on the car and the car was running with the right a/f ratios with the new cat.

Can anyone confirm this is normal? Any other explanations besides improper reflash? And can anyone tell me if there is a way to confirm the ECU was reflashed?

edit: i have stock exhaust. no mods at all.

my car never smoked like that...what color is the smoke? White, blue? that will help point us in the direction as to what the problem may or may not be.

If its black smoke its understandable, I know for a fact at WOT the ECU runs pig-rich with the S/C

ours has never blown smoke when punched ( "stock" sc unit ) and we've had the sc since it came out.
Is it only when accelerating, and not when the throttle is backed off that you see the smoke?

you should be filling up with the highest octane rating sold at gas stations, you can use lower rating but its prolly damaging your engine.

I get alot of Black smoke when I get on it I can just see my wideband drop down to high 10's. Have you got on it lately, when I was at vip in English town I noticed alot of the boosted tc's puffing a little white smoke on the 1/8th. Maybe carbon build up ?

I think if you did'nt have the reflash your idle would be rough with the bigger injectors. Does the car idle rough ? did you buy the s/c used ?

I would have thought a bit of white smoke was more moisture related; with black being from carbon build up or too rich. Or are my "carburated" days filling my memories with false info?
and i see the original post shows stock exhaust, I assume stock airbox as well so no issues there?

no, ive been using 93 octane premium fuel from the same shell station since a week before i got the s/c installed to make sure absolutely no 87 octane gas made it into the motor while the s/c was put on.

the smoke is black. i know its running rich. white would be my coolant, blue would be my oil - i think thats how it goes. anyway, i just confirmed this is not normal as my friends tc was supercharged and reflashed and his does not blow out smoke at wot. we both parked next to each other, waited a few minutes after normal operating temperatures and rev'd high. mine blew out smoke and his didnt...

the s/c was brand new, unopened boxes. it only happens when i punch it hard, for example, doing 30 steady then downshift (3k to redline pretty damn quick) and i see the black smoke in my rearview. regular driving is not visible. idle seems normal. im going to call trd, scion corp, and my dealer tomorrow. its starting to ____ me off that everyone at the dealer has nothing better to say than 'o, thats normal'. easy answer...

Lucky that my Supercharger hasn't given me any problems...I don't know what that could be...If the dealership keep on saying that that is normal, then just drive the hell out of it and if anything blows...get it covered under warranty or get a new tC.

or if there are others available in your area--try another dealer to find one that is willing to work with you and look for the problem

I think it would be the opposite of rich if it weren't flashed at all. As far as I know there is only one way to have it reflashed, it either is or it isn't. Do a compression check if you get a chance. I've been through two cats caused by the rich "condition." At the same time I cracked my ringlands via detonation due to a lean condition. Go figure.
