Hmm, turbo diesel TC, you should put stacks on your car! Puffing black smoke all the way down the track would be awesome!

Something just doesn't sound right. JE has been making pistons for a long time if they have issues why are they still in business. I would contact JE and see what they tell you, then I would contact the shop and see what they are going to do.

From what I've read on other car forums, piston slap with JE Pistons is pretty much the norm. Most of them report that as the engine heats up and the metal expands, piston slap should go away though, usually after the first 5 minutes of startup.

Took this from a miata forum:
The key to elimiating piston slap with forged pistons is to runa tapered cylinder wall. Most forged pistons require a large piston to cylider wall gap of aound .004-.005". If that gap is maitained throughout the entire length of the bore the pistons hit the cylinder wall at the bottom of the stroke when the rod is exerting the most side forges on it. If a tapered cylinder wall is used with manufacturers piston spec at the top and about .002 at the bottom there will be no slapping noise. That is what I had done for my forged JE piston equipped FE3.

Pretty normal. The fit and finish on JE pistons is god aweful. They are always loud. I use Wiseco and running 0.035 clearance they are quiet as stock.

I am glad you said that because those are what I have. I still find it hard to believe this is a common issue with JE and people still use them. Something just doesn't add up. How did the shop bore your cylinders did they align bore and use a machine or by hand?

Have you never herd of titan motorsports?

they are not some back yard mechanic!

And yes, once motor is up to full temp the noise goes away.. i should note this is only during warm up...

Just installed my oil pressure gauge. 35-40 at idle. then increases about 10 psi per rpm thats at normal driving temps..

Couple very hard highway pulls idle oil pressue is 29 psi..

And i went by the shop yesterday and the guys took a listen and drove it and said everything was PERFECT! And asked me when im turning it to 27 pounds!

I've heard of them but don't know anything about them. I wonder if you had the piston head ceramic coated and the skirts coated if it would help any.

I'll be running Wiseco's, but for the 1NZ-FE, they (Wiseco) recommended .003" clearance like the JE. I did get them coated before sending them to the engine shop, so clearance is w/ the coating on. Sides did get the dry lube coating, still doing re-assembly so not sure how it's going to sound yet.

Piston slap is common on GM trucks and the older Camaro's and Trans-Ams. Once they heat up, it all goes away. Just put some glow plugs in
