It's also a good idea to make sure the engine is broken in good before switching to synthetic. Some also claim longer intervals between changes with synthetic...How long would YOU let it go?
4K? 5K? More??
Thats what happened to my dads customer. She came to him cause she took her new car (A camry) to the toyota dealership to use up a free oil change. It rattled like hell afterwards for a good 10 min during warm up. He told her they probably used a different oil weight. She wanted them to hold up for it so she took it in and asked what they use. "10W-40 ". She told them to do it again for free and use the specified oil (5W-30) . Problem solved .

is there any other good alternative? i push my car hard a lot.

i use 5w-30 mobil 1 supersyn and usually the oil levels drop and turn darker and darker dependong on the use of my oil filter.

this time i used the FRAM tough guard filter (gray) and it started slowly depelting around 3k,
with the regular fram (orange) it went to 5k
and OEM... started at 2k.

i tink oil filters are the key but wanted to double check
or
is it jus my oil burning off?
pushing my car too hard?
just me?
somethign wrong with my car?
i read in a magazine that fram is the worst oil filters out on the market... they did a pressure test on them and it fell apart... the internal fibers just blewup... i won't trust fram.. purlator or k and n... just my 2 cents

I would suggest Castrol Syntech oil with a Mobil1 filter, 10-40 if you are running a TRD supercharger

If I take a jug of Syntech 10w-40 to have my dealer change it will they do it? Or is that against recommendations to them?

For all my free dealer oil changes I took my own box of Mobile1 5w30. As long as they dont say it is way out of spec they will do it for you.

5w30 should work fine in your engine, FI or NA... The only people who might really want to consider a heavier oil are those in hotter climates. If you're boosting your tC and you live in say Arizona.... probably a good idea but remember when the weather gets cold, 10w40 is going to take a slight bit longer to get to all the nooks and crannies in your engine... I run fully synthetic mobile1 5w30 in my supercharged grand prix.
