ZPI Stage 0 install, review & pics
Well let me start off by saying i've owned previous boosted cars before and i missed boost ever since i bought the tC.
I've had the tC for just over a year and it had 18000 miles on it. I've been racing (TRACK ONLY) and needed something more for my foot as well as for the shows. I was a little hesitant to go boost but have been talking with kenny for a while about it and i decided to go down to the shop to have it done right rather than do it myself. I decided to purchase the following:
- ZPI stage 0
- AEM boost gauge
- AEM wideband
- Greddy Emanage
- HKS turbo timer
- ZPI install / tune
Well from everyone that i was hearing from the stage 0 would be a good start and a good daily driver kit so i decided to go with that as funds were short as well.
A short side note: i had just gotten my rims from japan that i had been waiting on since february so it was time to "break them in" with a 1000 mile two day trip (whoo hoo)
We got into louisville around 230am EST with two gas stops and a couple of pee breaks. Ended up using apprx 21 gals and got about 520 miles on it which means i was getting an avg gas mileage of around 24.76. I think this is mostly bc of my wheels and new tires and a lot of weight in the trunk (big stereo).
Went to a hotel room where we got a decent rate and i tried to sleep (not succesful) excited for the next day.
Got to the shop around 1030am when our appt was at 11 and met the crew. Started right at 11 and began with the install. everything was going smoothly until we first started to take off the oil filter. This is where i became glad that it wasn't me installing the kit. It literally required everyone to pitch in, a giant monkey wrench and a ____ load of torque to get that thing off. So after the guys finally got that off it was time to take off the stock manifold. Once again another problem. One of the bolts was damn near impossible to get off and required the cutting of the stock manifold. Once that came off the o2 sensor wouldn't come out etc.. etc...
the main reason this happened is because me being up north the salt / cold weather pretty much froze those damn things right into the block.
The nashville scikotics came up and provided some entertainment and provided some people to meet in the middle. It was nice to finally meet brian, travis and the rest of the crew.
Either way the guys at zpi got it done and after a 3 hour install with some minor hickups it was done.
Kenny went out and did about 5 passes to tune it and holy ____ that thing sounded mean.
With an 8 ish hour ride home my buddy and i decided to head home and call it a day / night at about 5pm. so we got on the road after another top off at around 6pm
On the way home i really babied it as to kinda give it a chance to break in. Plus it would have sucked if it broke down 4 hrs between home and 4 hrs between zpi so i barely put it into boost. I didn't really notice a huge difference until i realized we were nearly 220 miles into the trip and i had only used half a tank. I was FLOORED.
the trip home ended with a total use of only 16 gallons. This netted a nearly 35% increase in gas milage on the exact same car that was driven up.
I couldn't have been more happy and i am very very pleased.
Now that its been a couple of days and i've gotten another oil change i really let it loose and let me say the car is a totally different beast. Maintaining the same driveability there is much more power and hell its just fun to stick it into 2nd squeel the tires and make the ladies look.
Overall the experience was great the results were great and the guys i met were absolutly fantastic.
and now what i'm sure your waiting for PICS:
and my lovely new wheels which were a huge hit
and some pictures from brian
thanks all for your time and if you need any help or have any questions let me know

Neb, got a question. When you were getting the oil return installed, did they cut off some of the rubber tubing? Also, was anything used additionally (locktite threadlock, teflon tape, et cetera) when putting on the flang and gasket for the oil return? Thanks!

At 2300 RPM's...hmm kind of early ? If i shift at 3000 RPM regular then i'm gonna hit boost everytime i drive. and if i drive about 60 mph then i'm gonna be in boost zone again , right ?
inst 2300 kind of early ?
