15" subwoofer or 3 10"s
I have read quite a few postings bout which is louder and people say it comes down to the box design, the sub, the amp, one or the other but I never found a real answer so here is my question...what is louder and deeper: 3 10" subwoofers at 250 watts each or 1 15" subwoofer at 1200 watts? for the arguement both are in the ideal selad box recommended by manufacturer and both are same quality and brand...it would stand to reason 3 speakers are better then one but if the one is running more power and hits lower bass stronger then what? I currently have 3 10's and was thinkin of puttin in a 15 instead to get some lower bass

Not saying the 3 10's wouldn't be better than a single 15, but my system sounded much much bigger than it actually was.

I am fan of 15"s as well but think in a tc only one will allow me some hatch space, I just dont wanna down size so if 3 10"s are louder then one 5" then I will keep what I got I just miss the low bass of a 15" sub and was wondering if it could match the loudness of the 10s since it would have nearly twice the power?

Some cat on here has built some boxes for 10's or 12's that fit in the left and right back corners of the tC allowing room in the hatch still. That would rock pretty hard. Or go with what another dude has, he's making fiberglass enclosure that go around the spare tire for 10's. He's got two boxes, both hold 2 10's and you can put 4 in there and still have plenty of space.
a ported box for 3 10's would be fairly huge.

Just do this:
Take out the card board floor covering. Look over to the right, and see all that foam? Rip it the heck out. Now, see all that carpet and stuff around the wheel well? Rip it out too. Lay some dynomat on the metal. Now, have someone build you a custom sealed fiberglass enclosure to take up that space and put a primo 15 in there, and pump in a stupid amount of power. Cut the card board spare tire covering/trunk floor to match the enclosure, and then bada bing, you got thump in the trunk from way back, plenty of room, and a spare tire in case you need it.

three 10's would "hit" harder because more air is being pushed, therefore more pressure is created. However the 15 would be able to hit the lower notes more accurately, compared to the 10s. Personally if you want multiple subs do two 12s in a sealed box, that'll be enough to blow out your ears. Remember the "trunk" of the tC is not really separated at all from the cabin where you and any passengers will be.
I'm just doing one 12 inch Soundstream T4 and that will be more than sufficient so..

3 10" the total cone area beats out the single 15" by a little bit.
Its all gonna boil down to the install on who hits lower, you can have 1 8" sub hit lower than a 1 15" sub.
Then on top of that it depends on how much power you gonna feed to those subs.
2 12" sealed aint got nothing on my 1 15" ported!

thats another thin I will feed more power to the 15 then the 10s combind, plus think portd 15 vs seald 3 10s another part to consider, now its matter of which 15...Diamond D915D2 or JL 13W7 (not a 15 but still pretty intense)
