Default 2nd tC with HUD (install from hell) PICS & VIDS

UPDATES ON PAGE 2: Page 2 LOTS OF PICS

Well I also got that DEFI Concept VSD HUD as our beloved WEDRIVESCIONS. (Props for the pointers online)

I started out with an intention to mount the HUD flush into the dash over the speedo, but towards the front vents. I took some pics and seeing as its nearly midnight I am gonna post all that tom. with diagrams and all that wonderful stuff.

I removed the center console, the vent box, the glove box, the guages and then it was on the the A-Pillars. Little did I know that its practicaly impossible to get the molding off because I have SRS airbags. So...plans had to change. Weather in brooklyn sucked and it was drizzling on and off, so plans got a bit screwy. After the near hour of drying to pull the A-pillars off and trying not be screw them up, the airbags, or crease the headliner i descided to wire the dam thing. Wiring was pretty staright forward. I had to tap the tachometer wire and the speed wire on teh ECU. The unit also needs a ground, a 12V source that stays on when the car is off, and a 12V source that is on with the ignition. For the constant 12 V source i tapped a wire in the back for the radio, for ground i used the screw in the upper left of the radio mounts, and for the 12V with ingnition source i created a new circuit. I took out the fuse of the cig. lighter, added a splitter and put a new fuse in (its called add a circuit, 4 or 5 bucks at autozone). I then ran the wire to a switch, and then across the car to the area under the ECU and behind the glovebox. The HUD unit comes in two main pieces. One is hte actual projector and the other is the computer. I put the projector right behind the registration sticker and just dremelled a small hole and ran its wire to the HUD computer behind the glovebox as well. For now the HUD is sitting on top of the dash with velco, and its functionality is pretty sick but the positions SUCKS. I plan to get in touch with the dealer and get that A-pillar off along with the dash. THen i will flush mount it above the speedo as planned.....eventually.

I will post pics and video later.

The install was not tooo bad, just that this was the first thing i did on the car other than hardwire my radar.

Anyway...more updates to come and holla at all those that helped me plan this.

Alright ladies and gents....after a some summer hibernation we are complete. I finally finished the job today, ripped off the whole dash and flush mounted the display, its looks pretty good. Here are two pics, I need to run some errands but will post pics and vids later tonight. As a sign of my good will and to ensure that no hibernation will occur, here are two shots...

Here is the car with now dash (ugly ain't it?):

Here is a shot of the finished product:

it's only if you have the side curtain airbags when that clip is there

otherwise it's a regular clip... you're ok.

I just recently removed the A piller to run the wire for my GPS and my XM antenna, there are 2 clips that mount the piller and 2 tabs that position it in the dash... i did break non-christmas tree clip, but it still holds just find.

The upper clips, the ones that take a lot of force to rip out are very important, when the air-bag explodes out of the a-pillar they make sure the a-pillar panel only comes off an inch or so and isnt launched into your face. The BS clip, the bottom one doesn't matter but the top one is pretty important.
