Default ac or no ac?

my question is quick, and it may be all in my head but i cant tell.

when hvac mode is set to the one where it blows on your feet and the dash/windshield vent (not the face vents), does it autmatically turn on the ac?. i know some cars do because it thinks your trying to defrost/defog.

i've tried testing it but with teh weather being mild its hard to tell how cold the air is.

it seems like every time i turn that mode on, the engine lags a lil (making me think the ac compressor turns on).

anybody know for sure?

thanks

I'm pretty sure it does switch the AC on.

no it's only the fan. you need to press the AC button for AC to turn on.

The a/c compressor DOES come on. Open the hood, turn on the hvac system as you EXACTLY described it and listen or watch for the a/c clutch to engage and disengage...

x2! a/c compressor does turn (engages) if you turn on the AC button, and vice versa. If it's off, only the a/c fan is on.

thanks guys.. i usually keep it on this setting when im wanting heat. and its just a waste of power/gas if the ac turns on as well..

just so we're on the same page. I'm talking about all this happening when the ac button is off.

^Yes! Even with the button off, the a/c will still come on when the **** is switched to the defrost mode! This is to prevent fogging of the glass!

thanks again, the only reason i questioned the defrost thing was because theres a button for that (front and rear)..no more of that setting in the winter!

thanks everyone!

but what you CAN change is whether you want to recycle/refresh. if you use the windsheild ONLY setting, you cannot set it on recycle.

that had nothing to do with what you asked, just thought i'd share =) haha...

yeah your car will lag when you have the ac on! at night run it with the heater on and tell me if it runs better to you, and get back to me please!
