Alpine IVA-W200 (IVA-W205) vs. Pioneer Avic-D3
What does everything think?
I have heard some issues with the D3 and its Ipod interface not being able to naviate easy, and the lack of a second disk drive
Alpine 200 and 205 has no nav, but the 205 allows for the docking of the new alpine blackbird...
any feedback?

personally i looked at both of the newest headunits from alpine and pioneer, and i chose pioneer on the fact that you dont have to pay an extra 1k for navigation....plus yes the D3 is only a single disc, but all the music i listen to comes from my ipod anyway, i never use cd's anymore...and an easy way to navigate through the ipod is to make a lot of playlists
and overall i feel like pioneer is a higher quality product, in person you can feel the button quality, and see screen quality and the overall sleekness of the D3
that would be my 2 cents for the D3, im extremely happy with it

well.. when i first got my tc i put a d1 in it i had from my old car... ended up getting sick of it.. i went ahead and put a w200 in my car cause my shop was putting them in on a regualr basis.... loved it since... sure its no nav... but i love the ipod controls and the picture quality is a mile ahead of pioneer... now since the d3 is out i have been putting them in like crazy cause its the new thing...
now... my complaints about the d3... the screen ... too small... for an in dash piece its nice... but have lost the sale of it just because of it... when we put an ipod adaptor in the customer ended up returning it because he did not like how it worked... now... yes the built in nav is key.... but honestly... i have the disk drive navi for my alpine... and nothing compares to it... bye far the best navi out there...
now... i will agree bang for the buck pio wins hands down... but best out there... alpine will take it... it all comes to how much you wanna pay...

i say d3. i played with it at the store its pretty cool, and i like pioneer stuff. from my experience i like the screens from pioneer, but the nav program is alot more intuitive on alpines (you can actually see your whole direction list, instead of when you get there). but yes bang for buck pioneer, but either way pioneer for me . lol

how about comparing sound quality? I havent seen both side by side on hooked up to the same speakers.....thats probably what i care about most.
If I decide to get a nav, I'll spend a few extra dollars on the PMD-B200 that docks into the W205. I'd rather be able to put it in other cars - road trips, ect.

i looked on crutchfield and it said that the IVA-w200 has no EQ settings, but the avic-d3 has a 3 band parametric which is pretty good. however, the preamp on the IVA-w200 is 2v versus the 1.8 in the d3. However, with the D3 you get nav (obvious plus), AND you get flexible EQs which are vital to your sound quality (this is all whats listed on Crutchfield), despite being .2 volts less on its preamp, either way (1.8v or 2.0v) your going to be pushing your amp hard. so i support d3 cause of the eq function.

I'm waiting for the 205, Crutchfield already has it listed for only $900.

I'd go with the AVIC-D3. WAY more features for your hard-earned dollar.

They're including a backup cam free, too. But, if you don't need that, I'd probably go with the Kenwood DDX6019 - that's nav-ready and $200 less.

Alpine all the way, personally I think the sound quality is way better and the blackbird with the docking station is sweet. I have the iva-d310, which is essentally the same as the w200 except mine is the flip out screen.
The dvd based nav unit runs about 900 or so off ebay, but is $1400 thru crutchfield.
I have the docking station with the blackbird and have to say that it is very accurate and I have never had a problem getting the gps signal.
The pioneer is a good deck, but Alpine puts out a sound quality that is hard to beat, IMO.

alpine w205 all the way. nobody has it yet, but the other day i noticed best buy had it listed for $849. as someone else mentioned, crutchfield has it listed for $900, that's $100 less than the w200. i'm not desperate for nav, but i am excited about the new blackbird. does the d3 have 3d view? i know the new blackbird does. plus it adds bluetooth which will allow you to answer/dial from your touchscreen. you'll have to pay extra to do that with your pioneer. let's not forget you can take that blackbird anywhere you go. that d3 will have to stay put.
i love my ipod and alpine has the BEST ipod integration out there. i've tried kenwood, pioneer, etc. they just don't compare. period.

I have done car audio for years and was an alpine freak. But I really dig the pioneer D3 with the vehicle dynamics. Also the first generation blackbird had a lot of problems with the gps tracking. It would tell you to turn onto the street when you allready passed it. But new stuff is out there so who knows. If you are still not sure on which one to pick wait till the alpine comes out and then see. But I am going with the D3.

^there was a problem with the blackbird software when it first came out, but with the update the thing is amazing!
I haven't found anything it can't find yet and the gps pick up is really fast.
I have it running through my IVA-D310 and it works great, plus no gps disc to take out and load up, so I can still play cd's while using the nav.

The 205 is now listed as available on Alpine's site, but I can't find anywhere to buy it except Crutchfield and they say 6/22 for delivery.
