Yep, it's been about 0 degrees here, and I have the tapping noise now too. I guess I can live with it for a while. It just sucks living on top of a giant brick hill...

LOL. Every car that has a windshield has two a-pillars. You have no dash?

ahh i thought you meant the plastic a-pillars considering you were talking about the plastic. no everything is out of the car to get well shall we say customized.

I had my car at the staelership today for the 20k check up and the service manager said that all scions, and some toyotas are having the same problem. He said that the seals around the windshield freeze up and thats whats making the noise. He said there is really no fix.

Just noticed this 2 days ago on mine. Since it's warmed up, I hear it less and less.

My car does it too. It's just one tap sound. I get it everytime I back out of my driveway. I live in socal, so i don't think it is a freezing issue.

I have the same problem and if f'ing drives me nuts. I had my windshield replaced last year and thought that was it. I took it back to the glass shop to have it looked at and they assured me that it was not the windshield. After being in their heated shop for 10 minutes, the car didn't make the noise but by the time I got home it was back at it.

wow I just crawled out from under my rock and found this thread, wow this explains my exact problem to which I wrongly diagnosed as a blown stock strut, since I am sitting on a TRD drop. Good thing I didn't go through with the strut and shock swap so soon. I should really use that "search button"

hopefully someone can find a cure to this... mine seems to have a mind of its own since it creates this tapping noise when it wants to... (mainly in the cold) but the other it was freezing and didnt do it once??...

-Sitting on stock suspension(possible upgrade in the summer)

i still have this tap/tick/click when driving over bumps. it seems to be mainly when the front driverside wheel encounters a bump. can't tell if its coming from the wheel well (suspension noise heard thru firewall) or if its actually originating from the dash or windshield, or possibly even door pillar or window.

anyone else???

Open up your glove box and go over the bumps, if the tapping stops then it's your glove box lock. I've got a tap going on right now over there and whenever I hold my finger over the lock hole and press on it, the tapping stops. Check that out and see if that's the problem, if it is, I have no solution as I haven't fixed it myself.
