the audio noob wants a sub....
Hey so I really know nothing about car audio. I'm slowly learning. I've installed subs in my friends car, a headunit in my girlfriends car a and a headunit with nav in my car so I can handle wiring and installation just fine. I really just dont know crap about specs and choosing parts. I'm not sure where to really start as far as learning about voice coils and ohms and all...
I want a sub and I'm pretty sure I want to go with the Elemental Designs stealth setup. That comes with the SQ 10 sub but it has the option between S2 and S4 and I really do know what the difference is and which is better. I also don't know what amp I should get to power it. I was thinking maybe a bridged NINe.2. The ED site says RMS Power (Bridged) @ 12.5v : 1 x 400W @ 4 Ohm, and that the RMS Power of the SQ 10 is 300W so I'm sure the amp would be fine for power but I'm not sure about the Ohms and all...
sorry for the long post but if any of you can help me learn about this stuff I'd appreciate it.

Good place to do some reading on mobile electronics:
http://www.the12volt.com/
Like was said, S2 and S4 indicates the resistance, so if you go with the Nine.2, you'd want the S4 version for a 4 ohm load.
That's a good combination for decent bass in a stealth set-up. It won't shake your hair, but will sound good all the same. If you're looking for chest pounding bass, you're likely going to need to custom make a stealth set-up, or something that's not stealth at all.

Purely for an example's sake, I wouldn't recommend this amp at all, if you went with this one:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_489HA70...ures_and_specs
As you can see it puts out 200W x 1 at 2 ohm's, but 350W x 1 at 4 ohm's. Since the SQ10 can handle 300W and headroom is nice to have to not push your amp too hard, you'd want the S2 for a 2 ohm load in this case. Hope that makes sense.

Me too I just put in some components that I got for Christmas, now I just need the sub to go with them. Trying to decide if I want to go stealth for the sensibility of it, or non-stealth for the AWESOMENESS of huge bass, haha.

IDK im a noob in audio as well, but the audio guys i have talked to said that it is fine. eD.com also suggests running the NINE.1 with the 2 subs. I yet know how, thus why i am reading on all of this new information haha.

a D4 parallel makes 2 ohm load, and 8 for series. but if it was a S4, on the other hand, you do not have a choice on wiring options. there is only one way to wire it, and it'd produce a 4 ohm load.
im not sure if this is true or not, but i found that out, and im guessing that dual voice coils are more desirable.
generally you want lower loads. i think 1-2 ohms is ideal, depending on the amp.
im fairly new at this too, i just put together my system (nine.1, 13ov.2) not too long ago. just sharing what i learned. sorry if its badly worded or anything. correct me if im wrong
