Default Automatic OBX speed star shift **** install question

I only want input from people who have installed the speed star shift **** on their automatic tC's.

I'm trying to install the 8mm plastic insert into the shift ****, but it seems too big to fit. Anyone have any tips to get this in?

Figured this would be an easy job... installed a shift **** in my other car in under 60 sec.

I'm having the same problem. It doesn't seem to want to fit. Where did you buy your ****?

I have the OBX Classic leather. I had that plastic insert too. I popped it in, pressed with a bit of force with a wide screwdriver, and it screwed in eventually.

I did try that, but the plastic part is significantly wider than the threaded area within the ****..no budging. *shrug*

Might be different on the Speed Star. Does the plastic piece screw onto the shifter post ok? Whenever I unscrew my ****, that plastic piece stays on the shifter post. Maybe put it on there and then push the **** down hard and start turning?

I can fit it onto the post, but it doesn't even come close to fitting into the **** tho. I turn and turn and slivers of plastic come falling out....

did you switch the bottom piece with the automatic adapter? there should be 3 pieces... the ****, and 2 connectors (one for a/t and the other for m/t). mine had them anyway. just a thought. i have a m/t so i didnt have to deal with the plastic piece.

Ok, I called the dealer I bought the **** from and after a day of researching the problem, they realized that the ***** have been shipping with the wrong plastic adapter. They said that all of their inventory has this same problem, but they will be shipping me the proper one.

Thanks for the update!

I knew I wasn't crazy... I got mine from McGeorge, guess I'll give them a call.

I just got my OBX Speed Star shift **** for my AT tC. It screwed on perfectly fine, but the "OBX" imprint is not on the top of the ****. Anyone got the same thing?

i dont see why you guys are having problems.

their are three pieces like andrew said.. the m/t trim piece, the a/t trim piece, and the plastic white adapter.

first you want to screw on the plastic white thingy.. it cant really be screwd on, just jam it in their with a flat head screwdriver and hammer.. it works.

second screw on teh a/t piece onto the shift ****.. it is the one that gets narrower at the end, not a flat circle.

then you just screw it onto the a/t stick, and kind pound it on if it still decides not to screw on.

then the OBX logo may or may not be alligned, if so, it comes with an allen key so you can adjust it.

I got the install done in like 30 seconds. I got the AT/MT pieces, the metal adapter, instructions, but no key....just curious where did you get yours from? How long ago?

due to some crappy issues with the plastic adapters, obx made upgraded brass ones

new ***** should come with that adapter instead.

I'm just saying the top of my **** (doesn't sound good) doesn't say OBX on it. Makes me wonder if I got a knockoff or the real OBX ****.
