Avic D3 Installed
Finally got it installed! Bypass done in a minute. Brackets modified so cover fits flush. Ipod adapter works awesome and fast. I don't have bluetooth nor sirius/xm installed. Navigation works great and I leave dvd in drive since I only use my ipod as a source of music. Now to buy the avox jukebox
Pros
- Navigation is great but this is my first NAV
- Screen is bright and no problems with glare
- iPod is fast with really no delay
- Cheap?!
Cons
- Can't play xvid files (simple modification fixes it)
- Select iPod videos through iPod itself and not directly through headunit
Haven't had much time to really play with it but those are the first things I noticed. Again, this is my first aftermarket head unit/navigation so I can't compare it to other models in regards to features and navigation.
Straight outta the box
RCA cable for the bypass
Picked out wire with eyeglass screwdriver
Bypass finished (just ground that yellow/black wire and parking brake wire)
Stock head unit vs Avic D3
Modified Brackets (drill original indentations with 3/16" bit)
Modified Brackets with Metra kit screwed on
Wiring Harness
Reverse wiring (passenger side glove compartment, next to ecu , white harness/pink wire)
Grounding spot I choose
Speed sensor on HVAC for an 06 (orange wire pin 14)
Daytime Pictures
Nighttime Pictures
Tested it on "scene" xvid releases with divx work around. Movies took a good minute to load off dvd. AC3 works as it loaded them off aXXo release but showed up as 2 channel on Avic. Here are some pictures.
Fearless AC3
Family guy, Rocky, and Top Gear
Customizable Wallpapers
Seems like D3 is picky as image resolutions. An image the size of 500x375 filled the screen up. While that image above is 1200x800 and had edges like fullscreen movie on a widescreen set. No option to expand of stretch either.

As for price, its $1000 on Crutchfield but also includes a free rear view camera which is a $250 value. Crutchfield also includes free shipping and includes all the harness and kits for free. Plus the $20 referral code and $15 discount can make some amazing deal.

The iPod cable comes free with a Pioneer CD HU, so you have to sell or keep the Pioneer CD HU in order to get the 'free' iPod cable. Good thing is that the CD HU counts towards the 3 items required for 15% off. You might make a profit if you sell the CD HU, you might not... Otherwise the cable is $30 from CF.

From what I understand the D3 will display the video from the iPod, but you have to select which video to play from the iPod itself. When a video is playing you can scan forward on the D3. Can a D3/iPod video owner confirm/deny this?
