Best radar for under 200??
Hey everyone...
i know V-1 is the best out there... but i dont feel like spending over 450 on it. Heard that Escort is great too, but its a little pricey for me right now.
What should I get with $200 budget?

In my personal opinion if you are willing to invest in such an item, you should always get the best. Instead of buying a mediocre product for 200 you should save your money and get the V1.
I myself are saving money for the V1, i have enough to get a cheaper one but i rather get the best.

That's the one I'm using and it's under $200 if you shop right.
Last year I paid $240

I don't understand why people are always interested in getting radar detectors... I've been speeding for a few years now but I've never gotten pulled over... I always just keep my eyes open for cops down the road, and try not to speed too much when I'm in an area that tends to be full of cops.

i know myself as soon as the spring comes, i'll be driving hard. The last time i was pulled over for 18 over was when i saw the cop and slowed down. if you do see them, its always in the last minute which is not enough time to slow down.
with my driving habits i need a radar lol

They know where to hide where you don't see them.
And when you do, it's usually Too Late.
They had a Radar trap in the last town I used to live in a Residential area near a School at 25mph.
You don't see anything going over the hill. If you coast down the hill over the Speed Limit they are waiting for you with their radar.
Also hard to see Motorcycle cops hiding, They can hide anywhere.
Behind bushes, trees, billboards, side of the road...
Any Decent Radar Detector, is Better than No Radar Detector.
It does not have to be the Best or Most Expensive.
Just my .02 cents from someone who drives 40,000 miles a year.

get cobra 12 band radar and laser it cost $100 at target, and it talks. it picks up laser pop guns and the new laser ones. cheaper than a ticket. its saved me plenty of times and picks up from a good distance. i dont know why i never got it b4 my 5 suspensions. and it tells you "emergency vehicle aproaching"

not really, radar is common to pick up but laser and pop gun are no joke. this thing picks up pretty damn good, its saved me countless times. im in southern cali and cops have some advance pop guns that send no signal(from what they claim)and it still picks them up. just my experiance im 100% sold on this thing.

cobras are WACK!! had one and that dumb thing kept going off when there was no freakin cop near by and when i could see one the number of range would not go up pass 4 when i could pass him like the lane next to me and i know if it was on the freeway i would of been pulled over cause it doesn't read from far. and no don't buy a used one cause it won't be worth it cause it. just buy a brand new Beltronics Vector 955/965, i used to have the 965 and it saved me alot of times but i burned it experimenting with it haha

the best detector i found thus far is an Bel STi R or valentine 1 . search the net b/c you can scored one for a little less than what i listed as prices change
Here's a list of detectors in order of price/performance (highest performer + price being at the top)
1) valentine 1 (2000 ft) $499.99
2) Escort Passport 9500i (1900ft) $449.99
3) Bel STi Driver Radar Detector (1900ft) $449.99
4) Escort Passport 8500 (1300ft) $299.99
5) Whistler Pro 78 (500 ft ) $249.99
Heres the facts I found guysoflidar.com . The charts are self explanatory. The first 2 charts BTW are straight ahead tests. meaning your car is facing the gun in a straight line.
