you could spend $100 on speakers and have your self a nice set. but you will also need and amp, and a decent head unit if you really want improved sound. running pretty much any set of comps off of just a deck is a waste.

but you can get a set of really nice comps for $100 no doubt.

yes i will suggest that you do need a 2nd amp. if you are going to upgrade your speakers, then put an amp on them.

how much would i have to spend to have a noticable improvement?
i would not spend less than $200 on a decent set of components and you need to plan for an amp and head unit. in the short term they will not sound as good as stock. i spent a decent chunk of change (less than a $1000 but not sure how much) before I said for certain that what I was running was definitely better than stock. Needed a HU, components and an amp, and a sub and amp before I was able to say that.

i'm very very very hesitant about pg after their merger earlier this year. in addition just because you got a set for 87 doesn't mean they have a warranty at 87

the mid-bass they have is outrageous and the rest of the sound is great also, crystal clear mids and highs as well. i also have a huge amp and really know how to mess with EQ's and time alignment and all. if a newbie just drops then in an undeadened door and doesn't know how to adjust things they will not sound as good.

they sound great, i don't care about any merger, they are still the same speakers they were before anyway. i have never heard anything negative about phoenix gold from anybody but you.

they don't have a warranty because of where i bought them. but they work out of the box which means a warranty was not needed. and for $87 i will buy another set if i ever need to(which i will not).

so if the OP is looking for a set of comps for under $100 then i don't think you can beat the RSD's.

warranties are overrated! the company always tries to find a way out of covering something. i am 22 and have never once yet had to use a warranty or wished i had gotten a warranty on something.
