it can be done, but you'd want it to only be on when the car is running, so find a spot in the fuse box that that only works when the car is on.

splice it into the cigarette lighter. that only works when the car is in ACC or on totally.

Might want to let a professional do it.

i use to think like that, but the people at scionlife and onzium kept telling me its hella easy; and I wasn't the type to have someone hold my hand through everything

a t-tap is probably the greatest thing invented for wiring; it looks like this

you can find out how to t-tap a radar detector to your domelight wires in the DIY here (which is similar to what you are trying to do with your cig lighter):

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=119184

ALSO, t-taps at radioshack are around $3

Just for stupid-sake, make sure that it runs off 12 volt, that it isnt being converted in anyway when using the adapter. If it is, just tap it in, tap it in. Tap, Tap, Tap-a-roo.

I did this with my garmin and it came out great. I used an Add-a-Circut that you can get from just about any autoparts store. It lets you tap a fuse and create a new circut for a real clean installation. I used the cig lighter fuse so when I turn on my car my garmin automatically turns on.

that's a good idea, i wanted to do this with my sirius but was afraid to splice into the wire. But with this it seems a whole lot easier.

I think there's also a kit on the tomtom website that you can buy which allows a direct wire install. And a permanent mount along the waterfall, if you wanted to go that route.
