Default CB Radio

Anyone install a CB radio on their car? What did you do for an antenna and how did you run the wires?

Is there any option out there other than putting a mag mount on the hatch?

just got a midland 75-822 handheld cb.. you can either use it as a portable self powered unit, or plug it into your car cig and attach a cable and roof mount magnetic antenna for the road... i am just using the flexible rubber antenna that came on it... haven't tested it yet, but i will post my reviews of it later this week... got a 2000 mile drive coming up and i am going to use it to talk to truckers to find the bears

I run any where from a cobra 148 gtl or a uniden pc-122 or a cobra 29 all these are really good rig's for you ride if tweeked and peaked, or just stock. alway run a power mic to your cb radio for more added moduletion. and if you don't want a mini wilson or a big willson 1000, try a radio shack trunk mount that can come off with a few screws. but a mag mount is the best way it will help you with swr and you can get out a lot better.
they call me cazy chicken 442 and i like to talk 27.28.50 am band waving..

Oh by the way almost forgot. you should run your radio right from your battery help's keep up the amp's for your radio when you talk. cig lighter work's for some people if you don't want to go thogh all the work of install to battey. But try this,go to a stereo shop and have them hook up the power wire for the radio with fuse inline and hide the power wire when your not using it. thats the best way. good luck and marry christmas

P.S if you want to know what kind of radio's that are small but talk like the big boy's give me a im i'll can help you out with best set up for your ride.

thinking of getting a hand held one like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Midland-75-822.../dp/B00000K2YR

That way, when it's not in use, it will fit inside the center console.

Is this a decent set up?

That will work good for you if you don't want the mag mount and cb radio option. cobra also makes the same thing by the way. when you do get it make sure to talk up nice and loud into the mic. be safe and merry christmas.

ok tested out my 75-822 on my 2000 trip a few days ago... started out with just the radio by itself and it was good for about 500 feet tops.. i was really disappointed with it... then about halfway through my drive i stopped at a very large t/a truck stop and got a nice lil roof mount magnet antenna... it just screws right in to the power cord and it brought my range up to a mile atleast...(on flat ground) i could hear all the truckers telling exactally where smokie bear was hiding... worked very well and never saw a cop w/o being warned first....

my review.....if you are plannin on just using the unit by itself...save your money it is just a large paperweight....if you want to put a small antenna on your truck for the trip and then pop it off when you get there.....go for it.. mine already paid for itself by getting me through new york and illinois w/o a ticket

i can't stress how useless this thing is w/o an antenna though.. so keep that in mind

Yup. mag mount the way to go . you can get a little will for around $39.00 way better than the little rubber ducky they give you with the unit.but due what ever is in your price range
