it has probably lost it's tach signal or engine checking. Who installed it? It seems like the remote start doesn't know for sure the thing is running and shutting down in protection. If it has a wire run for tach signal all you should need to do is start the car with the key and within five seconds hit the valet button to relearn tach. If it doesn't have that wire it is either in voltage checking or virtual tach mode and for that you will have to read the manual as I am not that familiar with clifford. THey are generally the same as most viper products that I work with so that is what it sounds like to me.

It seems that it only happens like after the car sits over night and is cold. Would that have any effects on it?

it is definitely the tach signal then. Your car takes longer and more amps to crank over when cold and the remote starter is set to quit at a certain time. If it loses that then it only tries for a short second. When warm sometimes that is still just long enough to fire up but when cold usually will never let it start.

You need to relearn tach or read how to reset the virual tach/voltage sense

I just looked it up for you. Apparently that one is just like my 5901. IF you have tach hooked up when you start your car hit the valet button and hold it till your parking lights flash. You have to do that within 5 seconds after starting your car.

If your lights don't flash proceed to number two because you don't have the tach wire hooked up... If you got it professionally installed I recommend taking it back to whoever did it and demand they hook up the tach wire. It's so simple to hook up you have to be completely lazy not to and it will always work better with it because it will know for sure it is running. Meaning it will keep trying when cold till it starts just like you would with your key. If not hooked up it tries to learn an average every time the car is started to basically try for a certain interval and then quit.

There is a black wire in your obdII plug that is tach signal. I believe it is pin 7 but I am not going to look that up because if a pro did it they have that info.

NOW if you don't have the first option and don't want to have it fixed try this

Reset and Deletion
If a feature/virtual tach needs to be reset or the remote controls need to be deleted, use the following procedure.
1. Open a door. (The GREEN wire, H1/8, or the VIOLET,
H1/6 must be connected.)
2. Turn the ignition to the ON position (The heavy gauge pink wire must be connected).
3. Within 10 seconds, press and release the Control button: 4 times to reset virtual tach.. These function steps are described next.
Step 2:
the Virtual Tach setting

Step 4:
Virtual Tach Reset: Deletes all previously learned values for Virtual Tach, and on the next remote start
sequence the unit begins virtual tach initialization.
Note: The “Zap” feature on the Bitwriter does not reset the Virtual tach setting.
4. Once you have selected the function step, press the Control button once more and hold it. The LED flashes
and the siren chirps to confirm the selected functional step. Do not release the Control button
5. While holding the control button, press the
AUX
button on the remote control. The unit chirps to confirm that
the feature has been successfully reset.
Once the feature is reset, the Control button can be released.

THEN DO THIS!!!!

Initializing Virtual Tach (not needed w/hardwire tach inputs)
To program Virtual Tach:
1. After the install is complete,
remote start the engine. The programming operation may require 3 cranks of
the starter before the engine starts and runs. Do not turn off the remote start if this happens, it is a normal
programming operation.
2. Once the engine begins running, let it run for at least 30 seconds.
3. Using the Remote, send the Remote start command to turn remote start off. Virtual Tach is programmed.
To reset Virtual Tach, go into the
Reset and Deletion section of this guide. Virtual Tach cannot be reset with
the Bitwriter.

Note:
Virtual Tach cannot be used in MTS Manual Transmission Mode. It is also not recommended for diesel
trucks.
Virtual Tach handles disengaging the starter motor during remote starting – it does not address over-rev. If the
customer wants to have the over-rev protection capability, the tach wire must be connected.

Important:
After successfully learning Virtual Tach, a small minority of vehicle starters
may over crank or under crank during remote start. The Bitwriter can be used fine tune

the starter output time in 50mS increments to compensate for such an occurrence.
