Default Clifford RSX 3.5 Remote Start Problem

I had a Clifford RSX 3.5 installed today. Everything is working great except for the remote start. I can remote start it, then the car will turn off for no apparent reason. Then it will start itself back up. This process then repeats itself. It only runs for about 7-8 secs. I plan on taking it back in tomorrow but was wondering if any of you had an idea of what could be wrong.

Thanks!

- Could be the factory immobilizer shutting the car down. Did they install one of your keys into a transponder bypass module?

- 2nd guess but not as likely is the tach settings arent right. If I remember correctly, the idle rpm is set by holding the valet button for a couple seconds immediately after starting the car. Also I've seen it where you have to switch it from high -> low voltage sensing for the tach or vice versa.

get in the car and put one of your other keys into the ignition but DONT turn it forward at all. try remote starting. If it starts and runs its a problem with their transponder bypass, if not at least youve removed that possibility.

That worked. The thing is that it worked without the key in the ignition also. The only difference I can think of is that the engine was warm earlier when it was happening so it was idling at a lower rpm. I'm going to go take a quick drive and let the engine warm up and see if it happens again.

Thanks for your help so far.

Okay, drove around a while and parked. Turned the car off and took out the key. Now it's doing it again. The other thing I noticed is that when it works the parking lights flash letting you know the car has started. When it's not working correctly it's not flashing the parking lights.

if its starting repeatedly and reliably with the key in the ignition, its the transponder bypass. Try it a handful of times with the key in.
The parking lights will not flash if the transponder has shut down the car (no tach signal present when car is off after all).As for the one time it started without the key, sometimes it will "remember" that the key was present if you remote start it in succession and run fine. Give it about a minute wait between each attempt to ensure it doesnt "remember" the key was there.

Try the key thing a couple times repeatedly and post the results. We'll take it from there.

Tried it four or five times with and without the key and the problem persists.

Ahh, with the key now as well?

yeah, not likely a transponder problem. Check out your owner's manual and if you can reprogram the tach via the valet button give it a go.

Otherwise just bring it back to the shop that installed it. Messing with the wiring will likely just end up costing you $$ and voiding their install warranty.

I checked in the manual and it mentions that it has this feature. It also mentions that it uses a wire connected to the vehicle to sense engine speed. It doesn't mention on how to adjust it or anything. I'll run it by the installers tomorrow and let them take a look at it.

Thank you so much for all the replies!

I know this is a little late but it definately sounds like they didnt program your tach wire at a high enough RPM. Just bring it to where you had it installed and let them fix it because they may have other problems there too. But it surely sounds like a tach problem. takes all of 5 secs to reprogram

That sounds very similar to the problem wI'm having w/ my code-alarm.

If the car is warm it seems, I can remote start it just finfe. But if I wait like an hour or so, it remote starts....then shuts off a few seconds later, then tries again 3 times and stops.

Now - it won't even learn the tach signal (I resoldered that joint) and it won't start at all. I think it may be the brain. Good luck!
