Default Custom Gauge Integration - Heads Up Display

...sorta.

Updated DayTime Pics here:

http://blog.scionxtc.com/blogs/archi...ew-mirror.aspx

I hate gauge pillars and pods...look soo tacky. And I didn't want to add 2,3,4 gauges when it seems so unnecessary. So what to do? What to do? Took a page out of my 12V XBOX integration handbook and decided to integrate the gauges in my mirror.

This uses the PLX system (DM-100), allows you to display up to 4 sensors at one time, and daisy chain up to 32 together. Right now I have the boost/vac hooked up and the "brain" for AFR...but have to get a bung added to get the sensor added. So the AFR reading is BS right now. I may add EGT or IAT in the future.

Scion mirror accessory has been surgically altered, added custom wiring and hooked up a switch so I can turn off the display if it gets too annoying.

Pics are crap because I can't hold the cam steady for 2s with no flash. Can't use the flash at night for obvious reasons. Anyway I will get some more pics up soon, and once I start playing with creating my own custom gauge faces. It uses an OLED display (65k colors), and yes that means aside from the "stock" views of gauge/analog and graphs, you can create your own gauges in Photoshop, upload via usb and have your own custom animation.

Preserves the homelink and autodim function.

opening the homelink was not hard at all. finding out there are two versions of electrochromatic mirrors....(only 1 being the type you can alter...ours NOT being one of them)...a big buzz kill.

But I LOVE it when people tell me something can't be done.
Like that guys who builds strength from the fear of others on HEROES, naysayers only feed my ambition!

The display is an OLED...not sure what the "organic" prefix means in front of the OLED. It is a display...not individual LEDS...measures about 2 1/4" inches square and capable of 65k colors. Basically looks like an LCD, but isn't.
I plan to make my own gauge faces in Photoshop and upload. Resolution is 160 x 128

i see. yea, been there, done that. I changed my whole dash and clusters to use White LEDS a couple of years ago, much more refined like a lexus. was never a fan of the red.

Then I moved on to other electronic endeavors...

That is the Scion Accessory mirror (homelink/autodim), there is no screen with that mirror. And the Plx uses a proprietary screen and 16 pin harness...no easy way to get that to work with standard video.
So the mirror was modified, (in more than one way) to accommodate the PLX display unit.

Do you have any pics of inside the mirror before you sealed it back up ? did you cut away the reflective part behind the glass so you could see the gauge

I found this which gives you a composite video output which probably could work with a indash screen

Interesting. Not really my cup of tea.

Not into viewing OBD2 readers full time...the whole huge brick thing by my left leg bugs me. And the display is a bit uninspired...hopefully you can customize that.
But it certainly does look plug n play.

So for the mirror did you remove the film behind the glass and mount the gauge on the glass?

Yes and no. If you have the scion homelink mirror (as i do) you will find that the electrochromatic piece is 2 layers of glass and cannot be etched.
