Default Dash kit hell.

Ok, so I have this aluminum interior thing goin' on and I decided to add an aluminum dash kit. I have had a lot of trouble getting it on though. It is really just a film that overlays on the dash pieces. It doesn't seem to want to stick around the edges very well, and the fitment is hard to get to match up. Is there any way to get actual pieces or do I have to use this film? Has anyone been sucessful, and if so any pointers?

PS- post up some pics if you have a dash kit that looks good! I'm losing hope.

It's absolutely essential to use an alchohol based cleaner to clean up the dash panels of ALL oil/dust/etc... and also make sure the pieces are warmed up to get the adhesive tacky...

But.... the bad news.... many of the kits aren't the highest quality and these stick on ones don't always work out the best.... I had one that had thicker "Real" material on the outside that was held on by 3m adhesive that worked pretty well... it was real brushed aluminum and was thin, but not sticker thin like most of the kits....

the "Real" kits are much pricer though...

they claim it's real, but it's as thin and flexable as window tint.

Sorry... sounds like you got the bum deal... mine was like 1/16 inch thick... and was not that thin... It's best to look at closeup photos of installs to ensure that products meet your needs...

Sorry bout the livin' and learnin'

had the "real molded ones" on my expedition paid over $150 and like wedrive said it's about 1/16" thick and the design(wood, brushed aluminum,cf etc) is covered with a gelcoat of some sort and it comes with the cleaners and "pre install" brush on chemicals...do it on a hot summer day and that thing ain't comin off

It's just an ABS laminate, but it looks decent. Of course, they'll get you hard on shipping.

Sherwood kits are pretty decent, but this is the kind of product you are looking for...

WDS, where'd you get your kit? Is it a brushed aluminum one? How does it look? My center console is a little scratched up and I'm thinking about doing an overlay (brushed metal) or replacing it w/ another stock one at some point. If the overlay looks clean and is more resistant to scratches I may go that way...

I just bought their 48 piece super deluxe Scion xB stainless steel kit. It came in today and DAYYYYUM. It is nice. Cost $349, but it definately looks worth it. It's made by Benevento. High quality.

The one they installed at Toyota/SCION is great.
It doesn't go too far and put pieces all over the place.
I could tell by looking at that aluminum kit on ebay that it was cheezy.
It's hi-quality, and looks really good. I get compliments on it all the time, and I'm not a big CF applique kind of guy...

if you are talking about a dash radio install kit, it took me a long time to find a good one too. i ended up getting a Metra kit and it looks really nice. the Schoshe kit sucks though, so i wouldn't recommend that.
