Default In Dash Shuts off after 10 mins

My DVD Player (Panasonic cq-vd6503u) stopped working as intended to after a week of installation. It starts to shutdown by itself after 10 minutes of use and cannot be turn on again except when you shut off the engine and start it back up again. What seems to be the issue?

Something is not wired right. It sounds like an automatically activated protection against battery drainage. Maybe the turn-on 12v source isn't connected? Not sure.

Nah, its not likely the wiring. If it turns on and off with the key the wiring is likely ok.

In order of likeliness:
a) bad deck
b) bad speaker looking like a short to the deck, or if you have aftermarket speakers one could be grounding out.
c)high resistance ground. The deck might be getting a very poor ground through the antenna rather than the intended black wire, the added resistance will heat up the deck and turn it off

Since you had it installed, bring it back to the shop to diagnose.

its some kind of automatically activated safety feature according to the owners manual, because it always turns off exactly 10 mins after turning on. Until it shuts off, everything works normal and when I shut off the car and restart it right then and there, everything will start to work normal again.

I forgot about the ground wire. That sounds pretty likely. Kileil, how do you know it's grounded through the antenna? Would that even work? :?

Yeah, it definitely possible. The car's antenna is grounded to the body, which is part of the complete circuit for the battery, alternator, etc. (Which is why you can ground amps in the trunk). if you ever install a deck, have the harness already plugged in, plug in the antenna and see or hear a spark... then the proper black wire ground definitely isnt connected.

Antenna lead ground dont have the same ability to pull current, and because of the higher resistance they typically cause the deck to run hot and shut down.
