Do I want 2V or 4V preouts?
So I'm going to be upgrading my headunit soon, and since I love my current one (an Alpine CDA-9855?), I'll be sticking with Alpine. While my current deck has 4V preouts, ALL of Alpine's MY 2006 CD players just have 2V preouts. If I want 4V, I have to step up to a DVD player, which is something I have mixed feelings about. So, do I really need 4V, or will 2V suffice? I do intend at some point to amp my interior speakers, as well as a sub.

The 4V pre-outs has its advantage when it comes to cleaner signal with less noise. Both are adequate, however I have seen better performance out of the 4v preouts while competing with a 4V unit.

Since you like alpine I have two new units available if you are interested.
The 9860 & 9861, both are new. While the 61 offers the 4v pre outs, realistically not many people actually use the pre out voltage to its full potential. There are line drivers to augment voltage otherwise if it is necessary. PM if interested in either one of those headunits ..
