Well I finally put everything in today. I wish I could say it went well. I just cannot get the box to fit in there right. I have 2 problems, first, the box doesn't sit low enough from the false floor and rattles like crazy, I had to pull it out completely. Second, the plastic piece that covers the latch and holds the carpet molding together will not sit right over the box. The box has a notch for it, but it just isnt big enough, its about a 1/2" shy. I am going to have to trim either the plastic piece, or notch the box a little bigger. I will reserve judgement until one of the eD guys chimes in and maybe other customers are having the same problem, or maybe I got a lemon, hell maybe im just plain doing something wrong. I'll take some pictures tomorrow I'm too damn tired right now.

EDIT: On a good note, with the exception of what is said above, everything is great, and the sub sounds real good. I just wish I didnt have to use a line converter.

 

just give ed a call they have free tech support for life and warentees so they'll help you out and send you a new one if it doesn't fit.

 

so what are the specs on your system then? you said your using a line out so im assuming your using stock deck? what kind of amp? because im planning on getting the stealth sub also but im debating if i should just save up and buy new everything or use line out and stock deck

Obviously you have way more control over your sound with an aftermarket deck, but we spent the extra money when we bought the car for the iPod HU so it wasn't really an option for us to replace it. I can't complain about how this setup sounds though. Not worth it to me to upgrade to an aftermarket HU, this sounds great.

 

I had the same problem with the box not fitting completely. I cut out that one peice to make it fit the plastic part. When i mounted my amp in the spare tire it pushed up just enough on the floor to keep it from rattling. I do have to leave the latch on the right side of the floor undone but its no big deal. It only rattles back there if i have the bass really cranking.

 

so dymers03 what kind of set up do you have with your sq10?

 

it is in the eD stealthbox, running off of a profile 700m amp that is hidden in the spare tire like Golden86 did his. I'm running that off of a panasonic HU, don't remember which one exactly. Then in the front i have Polk Audio db5250s running off of a profile ap600 amp. That amp is hidden under the passenger seat. Anyway, to go into more detail about the stealthbox, I had to cut out that little notch where the plastic peice went. Like BumperLT said, the notch was about 1/2" too small, i just cut it out and everything is cool. I didn't cut it any deeper, but the plastic peice fit good enough if i really worked it to get in there. I can take pictures if you'd like.

Ok, i know none of the cuts are clean at all, but i was in a hurry, and the box itself is freakin hidden below the floor so who cares how it looks.




The plastic peice looks like this with the box installed.


It has a gap, but only if you are at that angle, and it doesn't affect the functionality of the hatch in any way.


Here is where i mounted my amp, like Golden86 did. Again, with the cutting i was in a hurry, and it isn't seen when the floor is there anyway, so i don't care one bit, same deal with the wireing, nothing touches it or gets in the way, so i didn't try to make it all neat either.


With the amp there it pushes up on the floor a little bit and keeps it from rattling as much unless it is turned up really loud, but i still do have to leave this latch on the right side unhooked to keep it from rattling


Now, for the slightly off topic part. Here is where my other amp is. You really can't see it unless the seat is pushed forward.


This is my HU. A Panasonic CQ-C7203U. I have the xm radio external because i had it with the stock radio before and i think it looks cool there. I have it ran through an AUX input through a ground loop isolator to minimize the static. I have my ipod and bass control between the drivers seat and the console for easy access but i still wanted it to be hidden.

 

I moved my amp down into the spare tire as well. It fits perfect with no wood or anything, it sits right on the inside lip of the wheel.

Well, i don't consider polk to be a really good name, they are good and all, but there is better stuff out there. Elemental designs is a good name, but i felt like that profile amp would do the trick. I'm very impressed with those profile amps though, from everything i've read most people think they are very good for the buck. Those polk db5250s suit me very well, and that profile amp has no trouble, sound quality seemed great considering that that i am just running 5 1/4's in the front. I honestly don't think that i need any better amps for what i'm running. If i ever step up and buy a good set of components or something then i will probably buy a better amp. But seriously, those profiles aren't bad amps by any means in my opinion.

I can understand where you are coming from with the plastic part not fitting perfectly. Honestly, nobody i've shown my setup to has noticed the gap there yet though. I had to put the camera way down at that angle to catch the gap like that. As you can see in the picture from the top you can't tell the gap is there. But yea, i understand what you mean, $150 for a box that doesn't fit perfectly. I'm pleased with mine though.

 

Yeah...the boxes definitely should fit better than that. Considering the prototype managed to fit in Courtney's tC(which has about 1/4~1/2" of eDead on the floor) them not fitting just doesn't make sense.

I'll bring in Courtney's car and figure out how that would have happened. The really weird thing is that he actually started cutting that little portion deeper than I originally did.

So yeah...bbiab...need to figure out what the hell happened here.

 

I haven't put my box in because I don't have a new HU yet, but I will try tonight and see how it fits.

 

Yea, that would be intersting if it was more than just us two that had that fitting problem. but again, i have no problem with having to cut it. Other than that one part, it fits great. The functionality of the box wasn't affected one bit. It might have something to do with the year model of the tc.

Chris, what year tc is Courtney's. Mine is an '06.

 

Hmm... guess I should have contacted eD about this as well. I used a putty knife to remove all the eDead v4 and it still sits a bit high on top of my 2 layers of eDeadv1se. I dremeled the back corner down so there's only about 1/8" thick and dremeled it over the extra 1/2" so the plastic piece would fit... still wouldn't fit so also trimed the bottom of the edges of the plastic piece, now it will finally snap down. The flap of the false floor over the sub does vibrate when it is turned up, but doesn't make enough noise to be noticed from the driver's seat.

I didn't say anything about this because I thought Scion just did something weird with the RS2 since it had the other sub under there. There was a mounting bracket on the floor but I dremeled that off when I was doing my eDead.

Side note: eDead v1SE2 is some awesome stuff. The first few days driving with the edead in I thought my ears were plugged because all the exhaust and road noise I was used to became muted.

It should look a lot better....like it's a stock replacement.

As it turns out, the side walls were cut 1/4" too tall as the rendering they were measured from was based on a 1/2" MDF bottom rather than 3/4". Also, the clearance area for the plastic piece was not traced properly when making the code for the CNC resulting in the plastic piece not fitting. Unfortunately, neither of these issues were caught before the boxes were shipped.

Now the good news:

All customers who ordered one of these will be getting a phone call and a new enclosure. They were cut today on the CNC and will be our #1 priority for enclosures this week.

Obviously this is unacceptable and I have given myself a stern talking to for failing to mention that the guys in the woodshop should confirm that the box A) fit in the tC and B) matched the box that we knew fit in the tC and is sitting in our show room.

We have a few of the incorrect boxes still built so if we can figure out a way to make them work properly, we will likely blow them out at a low price...if that happens look for it in about 3ish weeks since we need to concentrate on getting this whole mistake fixed.

In short, sorry for this to happen guys. I'm working to get the whole situation fixed as soon as possible, and don't want you to think this is somehow an acceptable situation to us....because it definitely isn't. We have learned a valuable lesson and will be implementing a more exacting process for vehicle specific enclosures in the future.

Also, I changed the name of this thread so as not to encroach on the JL Audio trademarked term of "Stealthbox".
