Default guide to changing sound system

I don't know sht at all about sound systems and looking through a bunch of stuff online isn't really helping so far...Is there some guide on sound systems for scion tCs somewhere on this forum? Like "all about sound systems for Scion tC" with everything that I need to know in it?

My bro has a 90something acura he bought for 4k, the speakers didn't work but after he bought a replacement stock head unit to replace it with his stock sound system kills my 06 tC's stock. That's really embarrassing...and I want better sound anyway =/

hmmm are you wanting quality sound or loud sound?

if you are wanting better sound... get a good set of components for your front (believe front and back speakers are 6.5"'s and tweeters i believe are the 1" tweeters maybe?), also check the EQ settings on your head unit. that will make a huge dfiference.

and when it comes to bass, going with power and name brand all depends on if you are wantinging competition spl, sound quality, just adding some bass, ect.....

www.the12volt.com is a good site to learn about car audio in general... the stuff that you learn will apply to more than just your tC... good info to have in the future.

Pretty much every thing Squall says is 100% dead on, but in this case he's 110% correct. Get a better deck, get better sound. You're only as strong as your weakest link and currently that's your source. The stock speakers aren't all that bad (all things considered)... You'll probably be impressed with how good they sound once you get a better source.

oh man...I thought head unit would only improve it really little. I'd like to get some bass, maybe later on...I just want better sound.

how do you know how good a headunit is? I dont need navi on it, but I'd like to keep it the same size as stock so theres no gap in there anywhere...

uually alpine, pioneer/premier, kenwood, clarion, ect... that areusually prefered by most users. alot on here go with double-din screens/navigation head units. since such a large area for it.

usually i just tell people to not buy from wal mart/autozone/kmart ones as they are bottom end crap. go to like best buy or a local audio store and play around with different ones and get one that you like and will enjoy using. the one thing i suggest with aftermarket headunits is to always turn on the high pass filer (HPF) because then it wont put the crap 'bass' into the door speakers

don't forget crutchfield.com a lot of people buy from there as well. I personally have never done business with them but I've heard great feedback

dang...2-3 hundred for a 2DIN.. Is it safe to assume something at this price range would be better than the stock HU? Don't want to pay that much for something equal-to or only slightly better than stock now...

you gotta pay to play man..the pioneer avic series is pretty popular but they're between $500-$900 (someone wanna confirm this? lol to lazy to search it out..)

but look up reviews for different HU's and you will eventually find something. Take your time and do some research
