Default Gutting the tC's Ceiling???

Does anyone know how to remove the individual parts from the ceiling without damaging any parts? Me and a friend would like to removie the whole ceiling and paint all the parts that have a light color to it. That means we want to paint the tannish white pillars, moonroof covers, visors, and the ceiling itself. I already tried searching for it in all the forums but I can't find anything. If you would please PM me or reply here thanks!

from what i've read on here, it's tricky. the ceiling is very fragile. i've read that it has to be removed in-order. if you crease the ceiling, it is tough to fix it. if you want to remove it yourself, maybe do everyone a favor and contribute to this board by taking some pics along the way and making a DIY! that would be awesome.

in my corolla, i didn't want to spend the time removing the whole dash, so instead i masked everything and painted it while it was inside the car. i'm guessing your going to use duplicolor's vinyl dye spray. good stuff, wear a mask, or else you'll be blowing out paint boogers for the rest of the day, gross

I didn't dare when I did mine.

No point for me really, didn't feel like deadening the tiny area near the rear windows

Edit:

Ask Rick(raamaudio)

He did this:

seems like it would be difficult to paint/dye the fabric that the roof/pillars are made of.....I don't know though...

If I were going to do it, and I did think of it for a while, I'd reupholster them basically.

There is a special interior paint that actaully dyes fabrics so it would not fade or rub off.

Been there and tried that before. In general it does *ok*. Prep is the big key to it sticking right though! Even after I spent several hours doing some extensive prep on my dashboard, the stuff still has scratched in a few places where a screwdrive misshap occured. Of course, this was all done on the original dash of a '66 Mustang. Your experiance may vary on a dash that is not made of 30yrd vinyl!!!

None of the aftermarket products are going to give really durable results on vynil, I have tried the best there is, ok for awhile though.

I dyed the headliner, pillars, etc, on my 03 turbo Matrix, not happy with the results on the fuzzy headliner.

I would not do the pillars on a tC, if anything, I would reupholster them instead.

We removed the glass roof for the third time today, last time as well, stripping everything down and laying out plans to attach our CF/Kevlar roof now

It is sitting on the car, looks rather cool, not just to get it mounted properly but have to build the mounts ourselves.

As for removing the headliner, etc, alot of tricky parts, easy to damage, would take far to much time I just do not have to make a tutorial, sorry

A basic job would go like this:

-pull down the rubber molding around the A and B pillars.

-Pull the A pillar trim panels.

-Remove the visors, pop off the sunroof control, map lite module, unplug it.

-The visor end clips are next, twist 1/4 turn and pull down

-remove back seat, remove rear side panels, use small screwdriver, etc, and push latch and twist hooks on the side panels first before removing panels.

-remove B pillar trim, carefully, must unbolt seatbelt from side of car

-Remove C pillar trim and trim above rear side windows

-remove pops from rear of headliner, panel poping tool is best, do it from under the headliner.

-pull down on headliner and back a bit to release from "velcro" fasteners and front edge of skylight frame opening.

-pull out rear overhead light and twist and pass through hole in headliner.

-Remove headliner from car.

This is a very breif guide, if not very carefull and have very clean hands, you can ruin the headliner very easily.

Yep, great advice, works great as long as they are clean, they are cheap so best to change them often when working on parts you do not want to ever get dirty;)
