Head Unit for external harddrive
Well ive been searching back and forth for a HU with USB..fairly basic...but not all of them will be able to see a harddrive. I know i will need a power source just to spin the drive because the HU wont be able to put out that much power. I just cant decide which unit i want. I was thinking the pioneer 6900..but since its discontinued now because of the new model idk what to get. i was thinking the 4000 or something but this is my only requirement is for the HU to be able to read the harddrive like an ipod and play playlists. and my Price range is around $200. I would greatly appreciate some thoughts or anything cuz im so lost right now

Copied from my reply to you on Caraudio.com:
Just keep the cable short and it should work. If you find the 6000UB can't supply enough to spin up a newer WD Passport, just get a new 16/32GB flash drive, they're not even that badly priced.[/quote]
I have the 6900UB right now as well and my WD Passport 80GB hooked right up to it and worked perfectly. It's a 5400rpm drive and it's the older, less power-thrifty models of the Passports. Just make sure you plug the drive's pigtail straight into the lead coming off the back of the unit. More than 2 ft of USB cable will not allow the drive enough power to spin up.
The 6000UB is the replacement for the 6900UB.
