I know this is a little more than you wanna spend but I got the Pioneer Avic D3 and a Kicker amp for $500 off Ebay.. Almost brand new. But I love the Pioneer HU's.. They make pretty good quality. I'd say check out Clarion and Alpine too.

Double din headunits will be dvd capable so that can't really be avoided. I would go with Pioneer because they offer quality products. As for a $300 budget, you'll have to go used. If you're lucky, you can find a barebone AVIC D3 for that price, otherwise just find another similar product. Alpine and Eclipse brands are also good alternatives.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.

well let me ask a question. basically im just looking for a little bass to go with the music. i mean not alot just enough to know its there. so i mean would basically taking the amp and subs i have and just using a line output converter be worth just doing that and not wasting money on a headunit? and how does the line output converter work i mean how do i hook it up?

Which factory headunit do you have? In my old tC I had the premium factory headunit and it worked fine. I actually liked it.. I had a 12in L7 and a kicker ZX1500.1 amp run to it and there was more than just a little bass...

well i mean i dont care that i cant control the sub i never been able to in any pass cars i have had headunits in. mainly just looking fora little base. i just have the standard pioneer this one in this link http://www.flickr.com/photos/lmlienau/170946153/
but i was told it doesnt have the rca on the back. and was told i could just buy a line output converter and hook up the amp and sub. and that would be better for me cause i love the headunit that is in there now no problems iwth it at all. so my question is i plan on buying a loc. any chance anyone could explain to me how to hook it up?

yea man just wire in a line output into the radio. I have one if you need it. It was in my last car because I liked the oem radio. Also check out my fiberglass sub box. You may like the design and bass it produces.

If you go with the line output converter, you have to tap into the speaker wires from the headunit. I have one in my old Saturn, but the speakers in the rear deck are easily accessible, so I tapped into the wires going to those speakers.
